Countering meta decks with a few cards

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 05:25 AM PST

In this post, I'll be going over some of the soft-counters to meta decks. So if you feel that you're losing to a lot of these decks, feel free to pop on some of these cards and let me know how it goes for you!

Oranguru control, yes everyone's dreaded matchup, even for the player who's playing the deck. You can add a 1-1 line of zebstrika from lost thunder. This will guarantee that you're not getting hand locked. I'd also recommend adding a few poke comms if you're not rocking them already, to get this setup along with jirachi. Yes, this is a problem when you're playing greens... but not many decks play greens (except maybe gardeon)

Doll stall, another dreaded matchup. Most of us, including me tend to concede this matchup. Well I'm here to tell you, that by subbing a few cards you can make this match favourable. One popular card is phione from cosmic eclipse. This may get a pokemon (not a doll) to the active, which you can KO (caution of goomy). You can combine this with aipom from cosmic eclipse (if you're playing against florges/munchlax), to make sure they're not getting those dolls!

Malamar should not be a big problem. Just slap in a Absol from team up and you're good. Obviously they can get latios-gx and put an escape board on that for the "free" retreat, but it puts them at a disadvantage (no stellar wish and having latios on the board itself... great catcher). Frankly, I feel this deck is dead in the current meta (mallow and lana hard counters this deck)

Pikarom isn't seeing much play because of Lopuff. A less aggressive version is one with jirachi, which I didn't find too good either. There's mallow and lana for gx decks. Mew from unified minds counters pikarom's gx attack. Single prize decks like malamar giratina definitely have an advantage cuz they can setup a little quicker.

Reshirom oh boy this deck looked strong. There's just so much better things out there. Still if someone makes a good build out of this, then we need counters! Mew is pretty cool in countering this deck, if you're playing a slow build like stall, heal, control. Choice helmet is a good choice with tag teams having that 270HP. Giant bomb is another card you could consider, because then they'll take 10 damage counters if they KO your pokemon. Great if you're playing non-gx decks. There's just too much that counters it. Damage doesn't make the deck "broken" IMO

Dark box isn't that good. The reason is keeping that much energy on the board for long enough becomes a little challenging. Frankly I haven't had much experience with dark box nor do I play it, so feel free to comment! Just going aggressive is what wins from my experience. Dark box is slow and if they manage their energy wrong, they've lost. You're competing with damage with Reshirom, you're competing with tanks like ADP, which even has Keldeo.

Speaking of ADP. Ok, when I heard chaotic swell is gonna come out, I was like Keldeo is gonna be meta for sure. Didn't think this was how it was going to be. Nevertheless, the deck is not broken (like some people think), but it is meta changing for sure. So what cards can bring this down these gods? If you're playing malamar giratina, good luck. Well, I guess you can add giant bomb? Definitely good in fire decks for sure (baby blacephalon), but beware of great catchers if you're playing a gx deck. General advice is to play marshadow from unbroken bonds or faba, and wreck those keldeos. Usually you'll get a turn or two to setup, so do that. Have great catchers as well to drag off the keldeo and get ADP in active and KO it. If you're playing mew3 your opponent is not gonna use that "OP" gx attack, so you'll have the speed advantage (and I'm pretty confident some variants of mew3 with non-gx pokemons can consistently beat ADP)... just need to play around keldeo :). Baby Blacephalon utterly wrecks this deck (but you have to play a whole deck to counter this... nah). Despite these counters, I still think it is one of the best decks. If more people play this, then I think we'll see more fabas and marshadows and possibly stadium nav to get those power plants! Maybe. Let's see

Baby Blacephalon is a super fun deck. The one with birds could be viable in the meta, so that's what I'm gonna discuss about. So what's wrong with this deck? Slow start. The greens build is much much better at starting, but reset stamp will screw you (and everyone plays reset stamp). To beat this deck, play aggressively, or setup your stall fast. Control decks will face some issues, gotta get those clutch hammers!

Gardeon faba or lysandre labs is the counter if you're playing gx decks like mew3. Bulky builds can go with choice helmet, mallow and lana. Charms is the only thing that makes this deck good in the current meta. Reshirom can play lucario melmetal (people are already doing that) and energy/tag switch.

What else would you like me to add?

These cards definitely do not hard counter a deck, but it makes the life of your opponent a bit harder, which could potentially lead you to winning the game. Let me know what you guys think!

Bench Damage Deck - "Roxie's on Fire"

    Posted: 14 Nov 2019 08:17 PM PST

I've been having a lot of fun with this Roxie deck. All the Roxie decks I've seen stay within the psychic type builds, but I've combined two of the best draw supporters into one deck - Welder for draw with energy attachment , and Roxie for draw with bench damage...

Add some Volcarona-GX for even more bench sniping and I'm getting rage-quit victories! Bench Barrier Mew can't stop either one!

This is essentially a ReshiZard deck. The Koffings and Weezings are only there to act as "energy" to power Roxie's "attack" - there's no psychic energy in the deck.

I actually end up drawing so many cards I took one Roxie out for a Cynthia so I don't deck out too soon! You could try a Brock's Grit instead, but Cynthia can also help in the early game if you don't have good setup.

This is still a work in progress. The single Heracross is my latest addition - Welder 3 fire to it and OHKO a Keldeo-GX for weakness (I don't have a Powerplant because it stops Volcarona's sniping ability).

If any of you try this deck, let me know what changes or additions you make. Lt. Surge seemed like a good idea, but I found he got in the way more than I could use him, but I'm still considering putting him back in. I also tried Pokemon Fan Club to try and improve early game setup, but it seemed better to just draw for what you need.

TIP: Sometimes it's better to not draw and just sit on an early turn Roxie until the opponent can bench more pokemon and then maximize your bench damage next turn.

Smack down inkays, pot shot pidgies, blast the blitzles, knock out the nuzzles...

    Bugged Greninja-GX

    Posted: 15 Nov 2019 04:42 AM PST

In standard format, I was playing against Pidgeotto control with my Mew3 deck yesterday and my hand was locked with zero cards and a power plant stadium in play. My opponent helped me top-deck the Greninja-GX from the Detective Pikachu set by using a Chip-Chip ice axe and I was able to use the ability to draw 3 cards. This shouldn't have happened, right? The power plant I assumed would block this action. I felt dirty playing the rest of the game as I drew into a giant furnace and knocked out their Last Orangaru, but the internet cut out on me as I was about to knock out a Pidgeotto for the last prize card. I am wondering, have any of you guys experienced this, what I assume to be a bug?

quickest way to get coins without a themed deck?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2019 10:32 PM PST

So my gf plays pokemon with me online, she is even worse than me (as if that was possible) and at her first 500 coins? she bought a random themed deck, well am playing for her to get daily coins and weekly card rewards...but uh...its nearly impossible with her cards....pretty much everyone is using relentless flame and w/e that new water deck is, I get wrecked without a slight chance.....

I tried Vs trainer but you get 1 coin per win? so whats the next best option?

the objective here is to get enough coins to buy her a themed deck I do know how to use

    A regirock deck

    Posted: 14 Nov 2019 08:31 PM PST

So I finally got a playset of both gem regirock and Tropical Beach, and I heard Ito piloted a deck that used regirock as a main attacker but only gave a hint as to what was in it. I was wondering if any of you had any cosmic eclipse regirock decklists I could try out?

The earliest I've found was made in May so I didn't really find much on Google.

    GRI Honchkrow deck question

    Posted: 14 Nov 2019 02:32 PM PST

Based on your experience, who do you feel like is better, rule of evil Weavile or Koko They both have their pros and cons:

    Koko pros:

    • Overall consistent

    • Allows you to run pokemons with useful
abilties, such as Mr.mime, Jirachi, Oranguru, Mew, Octillery, Mimikyu, Ditto, Necrozma GX...

    • Doesn't have autoloss match ups

    • Basic pokemon, therefore he can attack on its first turn

    Koko cons:

    • Very low damage output, especially without a full bench

    • Relies on DCE

    Weavile pros:

    • Absurd damage (with only 2 pokemon with abilities you deal the same damage as koko)

    • HKOES Ditto, mew, some basic pokemons (such as rattata), 2HKOES Shaymin, 3HKOES a lot of GXs, notably Lele and Dedenne

    • 1 Energy attack

    • Heavy ability centered meta

    • Fits the Honchkrow theme a lot better (its a very important factor)

    Weavile cons:

    • Doesnt allow you to run pokemons with abilities

    • Autoloses vs certain match ups

    • Stage 1

I wonder how they decide what cards are busted and which ones are not

Like, ADP and Welder are so busted compared to pretty much anything in the game.

    Help perfecting my Blisstoise deck!

    Posted: 14 Nov 2019 09:05 AM PST

Hey all! This is the first deck I've really constructed on my own, and I love it. The main strategy is of course to get both Blissey and Blastoise out as soon as possible, and get Blissey loaded up with water energy from Blastoise (and DCE's) to do a bunch of damage quickly, while having supporters on the bench like Manaphy EX for free retreats, Alolan Vulpix for poke draw support, and alternate heavy hitters like Lugia GX and Blastoise & Piplup GX who can also be loaded up by Blastoise or Wishful Batons.

This deck is really fun, and works well most of the time - though not always. The wrong first hand can be deadly, and a mediocre first hand can be slow to set up. Looking at the deck list, what changes might you guys recommend?
