    Booster Pack QR Code Question

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 07:00 AM PST

    Hey everyone!

I am totally new to the Pokemon TCG. I have a decent binder of older cards from my childhood (nothing crazy unfortunately) but I never understood the actual card game before downloading ptcgo the other day, so forgive me if this is obvious! But the QR codes that come in modern packs, do those just unlock a pack for ptcgo? Or is it somehow scanned to be an exact match of the physical pack? Also, is buying the physical cards a good source to build decks on ptcgo? I am interested in starting a collection so I will be buying booster boxes either way. Just curious if there's a better method of getting digital cards. Thanks!

    Elo system?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 12:50 PM PST

i started playing again yesterday on a new account i bought a few packs per online codes to get started and after a bit of try and error i had what i thouth to be a decent deck.

i would go on to have 9 wins in a row until i hit a brickwall of suddenly every player i encounter having decks , cards, combos etc that i just cant win against.

i havent won the last 10 matches and i just wanna know is this just bad luck or is there a hidden elo system?

Spend your tokens on theme decks, not booster packs, but they're for children?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 10:09 PM PST

I'm confused about something. So I've always been spending all my tokens buying theme decks rather than booster packs because that's what this FAQ for newbies told me to do:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/ptcgo/comments/c38xpo/quick_theme_deck_faq_for_newbies/

But now I'm also hearing that theme decks are horribly weak and luck-based? Apparently, they only exist because they're marketed toward inexperienced children who need to learn that decks need to have cohesive themes/strategies, not just 60 of whatever cards you feel like throwing together. So basically, are theme decks considered only the "training wheels" of this game?

Wouldn't that mean you should be buying booster packs then, contradicting what that FAQ said? Because all those powerful GX and V cards are unavailable in theme decks; you can only obtain them through booster packs, trading, or codes. Theme decks are only useful against other theme decks, but the top tournament-winning decks all consist of GX and V cards, and they bear little resemblance to theme decks. Does that mean you should stop buying theme decks after you've amassed all the cards you need from them?

Brand New Player - Where do I start?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 07:19 PM PST

I'm brand new to the game, and thoroughly enjoying it.

Basically I jumped on the hype train with some mates, and was going to do a TCG unboxing for a bit of a meme, but my dumbass bought a theme deck (Cosmic Eclipse, Unseen Depths) not boosters.

I decided to give it a shot and am really enjoying it! (Played the Video games and competed in VGC before).

My issue is, I'm obviously quite a bit behind the ball on getting into it, and I'm struggling on where to start with deck building, meta, and strategies. I think I'm getting the basic rules down pretty well now, but to really be competitive, I need to start learning how to build a strong deck.

Are there any good YouTube channels, guides or other resources that give a really strong understanding of the metas?

What advice would you give to a new player in general? I.e. what do you wish you had been told when you first started?

    Fairy deck?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 01:04 PM PST

Looking to build a solid fairy deck, anyone have any advice? Been looking around but haven't found much. Something with maybe some explosive energy excel, something to take a hold quickly. Standard or expanded format is fine. Anybody currently playing anything like that?

[FREE CODE] Sword & Shield - Darkness Ablaze

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 08:56 AM PST

Thought I'd make this challenging lol. I don't collect cards nor do I play the online game, but I recently got a pack so there you go.

    1. Character played by Desmond Llewelyn in the James Bond movies.
    2. Upsilon
    3. Only letter in the English language that is never silent
    4. Only number that is both the sum and the product of three consecutive positive numbers
    5. Number that can be pronounced as "death" in Japanese
    6. Greek derivative of the Phoenician "samekh"
    7. First letter of the most popular cornflakes brand
    8. Letter that shares it's pronunciation with the name of a hot beverage
    9. Letter that is used more in maths than in the English language
    10. Letter that looks like the eye of a needle
    11. The first discrete biprime
    12. Represents the number 50 in Roman numerals
    13. The only even prime number

You're welcome. I know this will get figured out in less than 5 minutes using Google, but I'm bored so I had to do this...

Edit: Congratulations to u/SchaarMax for figuring it out. The code was sike, u thought XD

    Themed Fairy Deck

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 06:10 PM PST

Are there any good themed Fairy decks? I just started playing a couple of weeks ago and don't feel confident enough to build my own yet, though I do probably have enough cards to do it(been ripping packs like crazy lately). I'm trying to knock these fairy challenges out and it's rough using the Resilient Life deck.

Can someone please help me find the value of this old Blastoise?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 03:16 PM PST

Hey! After the new wave of pokemon card hype, I went to see if I could find my old pokemon cards. I have a huge collection of cards from mostly booster packs, and I believe that all of them are bought at a store that sells retail packs. After going through the cards I came across an old Blastoise. I believe that it has good value and therefore I want to sell it. Can you guys tell me the information I need about the card so I can sell it? And I wouldn't mind if I got some tips about selling too.

Advice for new players on TCGO?

    Posted: 20 Dec 2020 01:50 PM PST

I'm just getting into the game. I loved the GBA (tcg) games and I'm also a huge Magic fan, so TCG games are my thing. I've done a lot of the trainer battles, but I know those decks are nowhere near meta level.

Of the cards I've opened, Blastoise and Piplup GX seemed like a fun direction to take the deck, but I'm still missing quite a few pieces (at least of the decklists I've seen online).

What I'm struggling with right now is finding how to get a deck together/acquire the cards for it. On Magic Arena, you're given wild cards to simply convert into the cards you want. I might just be slow, but it seems like it's a bit less intuitive here.

So, any advice on how I should start building my collection? Should I buy the codes online? Do I need to buy packs irl? Is the trading system easier than my smol brain assumed it was? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks a ton!

    What's the worst theme deck?

I see lots of debate over what the best theme deck is, but I want to try out the worst deck and see how well I can do with it.
