Does anyone actually enjoy using coinflip cards?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 07:08 AM PST

Hey, I've recently started playing the pokemon TCGO and have been really enjoying it. However, the one aspect of the game I have found consistently miserable is coin flip cards, whether I am playing them or they are played against me, they just don't feel like positive mechanics for the game. I would understand coin flips for lesser secondary effects, or maybe draw power or something like that, but things like crushing hammer or Whimsicott GX make it feel like the entire game simply revolves around a couple of coinflips and it has never made me feel good winning or losing a game that is decided by these kinds of cards.

I understand I am relatively inexperienced at this game and might not fully appreciate the functionality of cards so I was looking for some alternate perspectives. Do these cards actually serve some productive balancing purpose in the game's meta that can't be resolved without coinflips? Does anyone actually enjoy using coinflip cards or are they simply necessary evils because their effects are so potentially good?

What theme deck, or budget standard deck would you recommend for daily "darkness" challenges?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 07:17 AM PST

    Hi,
    new player here,
I'm starting to get darkness challenges in my daily challenges, but I really don't have any deck that's any good for grinding them. Today I had to grind through a 12 kill challenge using the "tropical takedown" theme deck. needless to say it took a fair share of game to get 12 kills with my ratatas. But hey... challenge accepted and completed.
So I was looking at some theme decks with darkness pokemon... looks like there's actually only one of them: destruction fang. Probably not worth wasting 500 gold on :-(
Is there a decent budget darkness pokemon deck that I could use in versus mode, I mean I know Eternatus is a thing, but it's going to be a while before I can put it together.

Most expansive cards on SHSW03 and SHSW04?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 06:18 AM PST

Hey guys, can someone tell me what are the most expansive cards to get on online trade from Darkness Ablaze, Vivid Voltage and maybe some promos (such as V & Vmax) released in boxes?

No need to write down estimated prices. I'd look in the guide but apparently there isn't one anymore.

I also included some non-V, non-Amazing Rare cards that I think might be promising. I also got enoughs Whimsicotts and Garbodors to make a deck with them.

You really should try Togekiss V

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 04:01 AM PST

This card to me is the most unique and fun card in standard by far. It's a 310 hp pokemon for 2 colorless you do 120 damage and search 2 cards. A big thing to note it has free retreat which comes in handy a lot. This card you can add it to pretty much any typing and make some crazy combos and some really interesting strats. So far I've made 6 different variants each feels different gameplay wise and have a lot of success and that's not even scratching the surface.

Here's a quick rundown of 3 of my favorite decks I've been testing so far.

    Fighting variant

Main pokemon- sir Galarian farfetch, lycanroc gx

Main strategy- lycanroc gx has an ability that discards an energy from the active when evolved. Playing devolve spray sends lycanrock back to the deck, meaning you can keep discarding your opponent active pokemon energy every turn with togekiss. Sir Galarian farfetch makes 2 shotting extremely easy as 120 plus 200 can knock out almost anything. 9/10 my favorite so far

    Grass variant

    Main pokemon- zarude v, rillaboom

Main strategy- straight forward set up rillaboom early on, zarude v when you take a hit. Team yell horns is a really good tech card because of that free retreat which makes it slightly more difficult to knock out zarude. 7/10

    Lightning variant

Main pokemon- Galvantula, boltund v, tag team raichu

Main strategy- I run a couple e switches with this variant. Galvantula is a beastly card. 2 energy for this stage 1 does 20x the active pokemon. So if you hit with togekiss for 120, get a e switch and Galvantula, next turn you do 240 damage to that active for a total of 360.... That's pretty absurd one 2 combo. 8/10

There's nearly so many crazy things you can pull off with this pokemon, it may not bdif but it's the most fun I've had in a while. Lemme know what variants you guys are testing, I want to try them all. My other 3 I've tested was hand destruction metal, Dark loop and phione barraskewda water.

Just got four stars for everybody in the Trainer Challenge/Game Store. Now what?

    Posted: 13 Nov 2020 07:50 PM PST

I played the Pokemon TCG (real cards and the GBC game) when I was a kid. For the sake of nostalgia, I decided to get into Pokemon TCG Online for old times' sake and to see how things have changed. So I started on Monday and "beat" the game today on Friday. It took me five days of grinding to complete the tutorial and get four stars for all twelve opponents in all three leagues.

If my math is correct, that's 144 wins, right? Defeat all twelve trainers in a league, but do that with four different decks for four stars. That's 48 wins, but I did that with Gold, Platinum, and City Championship each for 144 wins total. You're given three starter theme decks and have to use different ones to get each star, so I had to grind Trainer Tokens to 500, buy Relentless Flame in the Shop (I heard it was the best one), and just used that as my fourth deck to grind until earning four stars for every trainer in every league.

The game apparently awarded me with nothing as I don't seem to have unlocked anything new. Nothing appears to have changed after earning four stars for everybody. As a matter of fact, defeating them again doesn't even reward me with money anymore. I'm stuck with 488 Trainer Tokens, and winning more games doesn't give me any more, and the theme decks cost 500 each. It feels like I'm softlocked or something, or at least stuck and unable to progress any further.

So I go into Deck Manager and see that I have five theme decks. There's the three starter ones, plus Relentless Flame which I bought, plus Mental Might for some reason. I don't know where that last one came from or why I have it. I also don't know why I can't use it for Trainer Challenge; I select All Decks and only the first four show up. I don't want to play online just yet because my lack of experience and powerful cards will lead to me getting annihilated by seasoned veterans.

I just don't know what to do next, other than grind against those same AI opponents and not win any Trainer Tokens from them. I thought there would be more to the game, since I remember the cheesy GBC game from 20 years ago at least having an excuse plot. You could also walk around and win cards directly after duels, but this game has none of that. Don't get me wrong; this version is actually a ton of fun and my time spent grinding 144 duels was surprisingly enjoyable. I just don't know what to do afterward.
