Is it okay to post codes?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 04:50 AM PDT

I couldn't find anything about it but I thought I'd ask before just posting. Me and my so like opening packs and collecting cards so I have accumulated tcgo cards. I thought about selling them but the payout for the effort is so low. I don't wanna just throw them away.

Should I post them here or does anyone know anywhere else I can post them?

Also do they expire? Some of these are a few years old.

Supreme Puff: Strategy and Thought Process

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 07:30 AM PDT

Hi, I saw that someone posted a deck built around Supreme Puff last week so I thought I would share my build optimized for second turn, the strategy and the thought process of why the cards are there. I don't think this deck is Tier1 but it's super fun and can get you to double digit win streaks (personal max of 16). I guess it depends a lot in the surprise factor.

    Strategy

    • Supreme Puff GX (Togepi & Friends) gives you an extra turn after your attack. But, if you have 16 energy attached to the Pokemon, it also makes your opponent shuffle all their Pokemon in the bench leaving only the active. The idea is to knock out that Pokemon to win the game
    • Use Mew to copy Supreme Puff from Togepi & Friends. Use Mew again to copy another attack to knock out the active after Supreme Puff shuffled all your opponent's Pokemon
    • Use Electrode GX ability to attach 5 energy cards from the discard pile to Mew. We use Mew because Electrode-GX attack doesn't work on Pokemon GX and EX
    • Attach 16 energies to Mew using Electrode-GX
    • Draw the whole deck in 2 turns if needed
    • Counter energy provides 2 of any energy type if you are behind in prizes. 4 counter energy + 8 basic energy make the 16 needed. Because you are knocking out Electrode GX, you should be behind in prizes
    • Use Battle Compressor, Dedenne-GX and Sycamore to discard energy cards and draw cards
    • Gladion to recover prized counter energies or key cards. Needed in half of the games
    • Shaymin-EX and Zacian-V to draw cards

    Walkthrough

    • First turn should end with 2 Voltorb and 1 Mew in the bench, 1 energy attached to Mew. Don't attach an energy to Mew until it's the last action of the turn so you can continue discarding them (putting 10 energies in the discard is not as easy). Optional having Zacian-V to end the turn drawing 3 cards with Intrepid Sword.
    • If you went second, use Gladion to retrieve counter energy from the prizes. If there is none, can use it to retrieve battle compressor or any of the consistency cards. Can also use Sycamore.
    • First turn in hand have, at least, a draw card. It's better if you also have a stadium to counter your enemy's one and a reset-draw (Sycamore/Dedenne) in case you end up with a dead hand.
    • First turn in the active you want to leave a tanky Pokemon like Togepi & Friends or Zacian-V. Dedenne and Shaymin are a no-no as they give up 2 prizes, have low HP and common weaknesses.
    • Second turn, evolve both Voltorb. Wait to use Electrode-GX ability til you are sure you are gonna pull it off in that turn or if you need the bench space.
    • Once Mew has the 2 manually attached energies, Togepi & Friends is in the bench, and the 10 energies are in the discard pile, use Electrode GX ability, switch to Mew and use Supreme Puff.
    • Now you have the extra turn. Depending on your opponent, you might have to use Energy Dive (Tapu Lele-GX) to make at least 320 damage which should knock out most opponents. Otherwise, any of the other attacks can be used

    Tips

    • Always discard the counter energies and attach basic energies to Mew. In expanded, Enhanced Hammer is supper common (it discards special energies) and you don't want to fall behind by a turn
    • If you don't have to extend your bench, don't play Sky Fields (stadium), better save it in case your opponent plays one. Silent Lab and Power Plant are super disruptive because we depend on Dedenne-GX, Shaymin-EX and Tapu Lele-GX to draw
    • Same with Floating Stone, there are only 2 in the deck and Field Blower against your last Floating Stone is super disruptive
    • Never give up 2 prizes to an opponent attack. If you know your opponent might be able to knock out your active, give up a single prizer (first turn Guzma is not common). You are going to need to sacrifice 4 prizes with Electrode-GX
    • Use Mew as pivot, it has no retreat cost
    • Use Battle Compressor, Rescue Stretcher and VS Seeker strategically. This is the norm in most decks but it takes practice to recognize these situations
    • Thin the deck to draw the needed cards!
    • Don't forget to leave 1 card in your deck for your extra turn after Supreme Puff. It happened to me more than once. Can use rescue stretcher or pokecomm to put some Pokemon in the deck if you forgot
    • If your opponent bricks and has no Pokemon in the bench, don't make them wait til you draw 20 more cards and just knock out the damn thing :)

    Why do people play mill?

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 04:44 PM PDT

Keen to get some opinions on this without starting an argument. So if you're looking to argue please don't reply here!

I just finished another gruelling 90 minutes long best of 3 vs a mill deck. Granted that was on the long side, but I can't often recall a best of 3 vs mill that took much less than an hour on PTCGO.

People that play mill decks - what's the motivation to do so? Games presumably are always either A) scooped because people don't want to play against your, or B) long grinds because that's just the deal with mill. Also, I've seen some horrible comments often flung at mill players - that kind of behaviour can't be nice to be on the receiving end of.

The best I could come up with myself as a non-mill players is either A) you feels it's BDIF so why not play it, or B) once it's set up the games play is straightforward (no prizes trades or complex sequencing and card counting / draw odds calculating etc.)

Perhaps I'm missing the inner beauty of mill! If you have any insight to why people play mill, please let me know!

TL;DR - do you play mill? Why?

    Expanded Community?

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 11:45 PM PDT

Is there any website out there where people talk about and share their expanded deck lists? I know about Goldfish, and Limitless, but both sites haven't been updated since like...January?

I'm just trying to find a place where I can get some deck ideas, and bounce mine off of other people as well.

Is there any active expanded PTCG community on the internet?

Should I buy a 2nd Rillaboom theme deck..?

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 02:02 PM PDT

I'm kind of a noob to PTCGO but played Pokémon years ago and lotsa MTG. I am really liking this Rillaboom theme deck I bought and wondering if I should buy a 2nd to get some play sets towards making some kind of budget deck for standard. Is that a good idea? Do you think a budget Rillaboom deck could be viable in standard? Even if it means waiting/hoping for some lucky pulls or some kind of good complimentary cards in Rebel Clash and beyond?

    Returning player

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 09:50 AM PDT

Hey everyone! I've decided to pick this game back up again as I've been pretty bored during all this nonsense. I used to play a lot during the times of Night March being in standard and then moving to expanded. Just wondering what has all changed in the game since then. I'll probably load up my account and take a look at the cards I have and see that I can't use any of them in standard haha. Is there still a market for buying codes and exchanging them for cards?
