Top 10 most expensive cards in standard - WEEK 27

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 10:28 AM PDT

9 days ago I did a list of the top 10 most expensive cards that are legal for standard play. Since then a LOT has happened, primarily SR energies rising a LOT and some newer investment cards crashing, and Dedenne-GX is GONE due to the Toolkit being released. So here is an updated list. I could well have forgotten or overlooked a card, so if you spot an error, let me know. Prices are in RCL packs.

    1. SR basic energies – 20-90 packs

Back on top is that perennial investors favourite, the basic SR energies. All of them have seen significant increases in value recently, with Darkness leading the way as usual, approaching a value of 90, but Fire has also seen huge increases, pretty much doubling over the last few weeks and is now close to 60. Even the effectively defunct Fairy energy is now hard to get much below 20 packs.

    2. SR Quick Ball – 57 packs

Taking a huge dive, the last king dives 17 packs and now sits at #2. So the meteoric rise not only came to an end, it actually crashed. Hard to say what will happen going forward, but let's just remember there is a very good reason why this card is so expensive. A ubiquitous 4-of in virtually every deck and not likely to be replaced anytime soon.

    3. Switch (HGSS reverse foil) - 40 packs

Not much of a market for this right now, so the price is a guesstimate based on previous trading for it. Alternatively the SR Switch from Sun & Moon sits at around 26 packs.

    4. Pokémon Communication (HGSS reverse foil) - 28 packs

    Another HGSS guesstimate, really.

    5. SR Crushing Hammer – 25 packs

Climbing since the last version of the list. On the one hand, this card is probably going to be standard legal for a very long time since it keeps getting reprinted, making it a safe investment. On the other hand, it is highly meta dependent and virtually useless in a meta with a ton of energy recursion. Its current popularity is probably due to it being excellent against Dragapult Vmax and ADP.

    6. Rare Candy (HGSS reverse foil) - 25 packs

Same as with Switch and Pokecom. It's a reverse foil HGSS trainer that is standard legal. It is going to be expensive and it is going to be hard to estimate its value.

    7. RR Zacian V – 21 packs

The most hyped pokemon from Sword & Shield base set. This is for the beautiful "gold" rainbow rare Zacian V, which is considerably more expensive than the regular Zacian V.

    8. Dragapult Vmax – 21 packs

The most hyped new pokemon from Rebel Clash and the deck is indeed very good and quite fun to play, IMO. Value has gone up and down a bit, but has typically revolved around a value of 20.

    9. SR Scoop Up Net – 18 packs

This is another card that crashed. I maintain that the card is bonkers good and could have major investment upside. On the other hand, people fear that the banhammer might hit this one, at least in expanded where the synergy with Shaymin-EX is borderline broken.

    10. FA Boss's Orders – 17 packs

An interesting trend to be aware of is that the new FA supporters are valued HIGHER than their more rare RR counterparts, simply because people think the FA looks better (and I agree). Whether this will hold in the long run is anybody's guess though. Same for FA Boss's Orders which is currently the most valuable supporter card in the game.

Does winning 12 trainer challenges with theme deck guarantee V or GX?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 10:39 AM PDT

So i just bought the zazmenta theme deck and after winning 12 trainer challenge matches i got 3 rebel clash booster pack as a reward. When i opened them all 3 gave me a pokemon V card. Is this just godlike luck or are GX / EX / V pokemon guards guaranteed when you complete the 12 trainer challenges???

What are better alternatives to Hau/Hop

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 11:40 AM PDT

I've watched youtube videos where people just say Hau/Hop are just beginner draw supporters. I'm a beginner myself and want to know any common supporters that do a better job. This might be a dumb question since all decks can be specific because of their typing, but what are reccomendations in general? Thanks in advance!

    Hidden Fates Codes

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 11:04 AM PDT

Sort of a newb question as I'm returning after a long hiatus-

I'm looking into getting bulk amounts of codes solely to trade for cards I need. Hidden Fates codes are very cheap, but is there any demand for them? I know they are valued at .66 of a pack, do people typically care about specific packs? Or am I better off spending a little more for Rebel Clash

New player wanting to transition into Standard

    Posted: 03 Jul 2020 01:34 PM PDT

I've been playing this game for about a week now and have picked up a few theme decks. Wanting to eventually transaction into Standard. Does anyone have recommendations on multiple theme decks that I can combine to create a somewhat competitive deck for standard play? Thanks in advance.

Just fyi I'm already planning on getting quick balls, a few gusting cards and electro power. I don't know if adding a 4th lucky egg is worth it. Was curious if there was any way I can improve upon this deck. Also I'd like to make this my 1 prize card deck since I dont have one yet so no gx tag team or vmax cards please.

    Deck Help?

Made this deck just for fun, so yes, I'm aware it isn't a tier whatever deck. I'm just looking to see if i could get suggestions on how to improve it. I somehow managed to beat a PikaRom's Dog deck with it. Please and thank you!

(Could only manage to get two Sableye V from trading, though it does fine either way. I was thinking of maybe getting a Yveltal-GX, maybe?)

    Worst theme deck?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 12:55 PM PDT

So the question of what is the best theme deck to begin with has been asked many times and has been answered many more times. But what is the worst theme deck you have played with?

Mine is Chaos Control. So, my plan is to get every theme deck, but I choose randomly. So my last pick has been Chaos Control, and it has sucked the life of me trying to win 12 trainer challenges..

Chaos Control in short: too many energies, too many useless pokemon, most powerful pokemon (tyranitar) is the only card above 100 HP, it also needs 4! Energies for the measly amount of 80 dmg. The trainer cards could help out if it weren't for them being 11 of the total amount of cards..

I don't know if I'll make it to 12 trainer challenge wins, please send help..

Also, share your worst theme deck!

Now that I’m back into the game, what’s the best way to ease back into standard/expanded?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 03:55 PM PDT

To clarify, I stopped playing a little after Unified Minds/ Hidden Fates dropped, so I have absolutely nothing past those sets. The decks I was using prior to stopping were a Blowns GX deck, Dark Box, Reshizard, and PikaRom in standard.

In expanded I was running a Rayquaza GX happy energy time deck, and a poison spread deck that worked way better than it should have.

What decks have I missed out on that would be similar to ones I've made in the past? Any new tools for existing decks? Am I better off scrapping most of these and starting new? It's gonna take me a bit to build up a repertoire of the new sets, so I'll need to be pretty selective on my trades going in.

Thanks all, hope to hit the ladder again with earnest soon.

How to win against Mill decks

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 11:36 AM PDT

Those Mill decks are super annoying and super boring. and very time consuming. I want to just concede and move on, but don't want to give them the satisfaction. Any weaknesses i can exploit? I mean is there a straight forward way to beat them?

    Garchomp & Giratina-GX Deck help

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 02:50 PM PDT

    Hi, guys!

One of my first GX cards was Garchomp & Giratina, and I felt in love with it, so I wanted to make a deck with them.

So now that I lucked on my third copy, I was looking somewhere on internet, and found this list. I have some cards missing, so I can't try it out (and I'm not that good judging decks only by their looks), so I would love to have you opinion about if, if it is worth to spend resources, and I it will be good after rotation.

If not, could you recommend me some nice Garchomp & Giratina GX deck which won't be too screwed after August rotation? Thank you very much!
