Register for the Ten-Set Scramble - Begins October 2

    Posted: 21 Sep 2020 12:45 PM PDT

Hey everyone, /r/ptcgoleague has announced another Ten-Set Scramble event! Ten sets are randomly chosen and players must construct a deck using only cards from those sets.

Here were the 10 sets chosen this time:
    BREAKthrough
    Champion's Path
    Dragon Majesty
    Generations
    Guardians Rising
    HeartGold & SoulSilver
    Plasma Blast
    Plasma Storm
    Primal Clash
    Triumphant

You can click here to see the full event rules and register to play. The plan is to run this event every 3 months or so, and each time it's like a brand new event with different sets. This will be the second iteration of the event; last time around the players thought it was a lot of fun!

This tournament is sponsored by https://www.cardcaverntradingcards.com/

This tournament (and all other /r/ptcgo & /r/ptcgoleague tournaments) are not endorsed by TPCi

    Etiquette

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 07:14 AM PDT

What are some of the conventions for player etiquette in ptcgo?

Do you use reactions with the other player? Is it better to play out a match or concede as soon as your defeat is assured? What are your pet peeves, i.e. things that other players do that annoy you?

Hi all. Looking to get back into the game online. Hoping to make this deck. Some of the cards aren’t legal anymore so what would be good replacements? Tia.

    baby Blacephalon in expanded

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 08:21 AM PDT

I loved playing baby blowns in standard last format and sad to see it gone, I was wondering if anyone had tried to make it work in expanded? I've seen a few lists but they all rely on lt surge which is now banned.

    GX Deck Format

    Posted: 30 Sep 2020 06:49 AM PDT

I think that it would be a really cool idea if we had a specific format where we could only use decks gotten from either tins / or products like League Battle Decks Because I find it really sad that those decks are worthless and if you're a newer player (not me, but others) and don't have that many good cards, you have to make your own variant, but you can't, so you have to play with those bad-decent decks against the top decks there are. Maybe also consider making them available to be bought for 2.5K coins or something, don't know about that one.

TLDR: Just add a format for decks from Tins / League Battle decks, etc.

    Favorite magneton double support synergy?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 05:16 PM PDT

I really like cards like this that can make some nice combos.

Magneton lets you knock it out and search 3 supporters. 1 of those should be lt surge which lets you play the other 2. This is some of my favorite synergy combos, let me know if you have some others you like to share.

Blue Rose- Simple strategy. Use blue tactic that lets you draw 8 at the end of your turn and then play rose to discard your hand to accelerate a vmax up to 2 energy from your discard. Being able to attack early and have a monster hand for next turn.

Jessie and James and make it double- Another simple idea, discard 2 cards from your hand and make your opponent discard 2 from their hand. The thing is if you play one Jessie and James and discard 2 and the only card in your hand is another Jessie and James you can still play it to make your opponent discard another 2 without you yourself discarding.

Some other obvious ones, welder and greens, double team yell grunt, any supporter and Cynthia and catilyn to bring it back, kogas trap and will.

Where to find results for online tournaments?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 07:32 PM PDT

Hey all, I'm a returning competitive player who prefers to play expanded. Usually I would use limitless to check the metagame to see what's going on in the meta, but there isnt any data there for expanded currently. Where should I look to find recent tournament results, if we even have any.

For anyone new to the game: Here is a small guide to get started ( not too sure what to flair it as, but deck help seemed appropriate)

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 07:34 PM PDT

Okay, so you have just started. First of all, the game should supply you with a GX after completing the tutorial. Here is an important note: if you have codes from physical irl packs, use those for the online version! it will get you packs to either open, or trade to get other stuff. Anyway, the game should have given you an option for the trainer challenge. Play that, and work on getting 500 coins (you may have gotten a theme deck at the start if you go to versus, but i cant remember). After you save up 500 coins, go to the shop and buy the charizard team up theme deck. After that, play alot of versus to get more coins and collect more rare cards for decks.

Now, trading. This is hard to do as you often get people scamming by asking for tons of rare cards for a single pack (often not even worth anything). If you go to your collection, under every card will be a lock with a number by it. These cards are trade locked. They are bound to your account no matter what. There should also be a blue tab with a number by it. That number may be 0, but those are tradeable cards. you can trade those with other players. something worth noting is that if you buy packs from the shop, those are trade locked, along with all the cards inside that pack. If you get yellow tickets, you can enter tournaments with theme decks to earn tradeable packs.

That is the basics of PTCGO, if you have any questions, just leave a comment below and people can answer those questions. There is also a weekly trading post so you can trade with other people here. I hope you enjoy having fun with this game :)

Why are people sleeping on Charizard Vmax w/rose?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 02:47 PM PDT

Rose has been disregarded by everyone as a poor card, however when combined with charizard VMAX, rose and triple acceleration allow you to continually hit for 300.

Rose combined with rose tower means you're always holding 4-7 cards come your next turn(depending how many prizes you take for KO+your next draw). I don't understand why everyone is sleeping on it.

Decklist posted in comments... Would like some help to iron this out because this is going to be a tier one!

What energy currently has the most support for it?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 02:39 PM PDT

My main attacker in my deck, Dubwool V, doesnt require specific energy. Instead of stockpile my deck with energy, i was wondering if there was a certain energy type that has good support for it to get it out quicker?

Just got 20+ Champion's Path Packs. Should I open or trade if I want to get into Standard?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 01:34 PM PDT

I'm new to ptcgo and was able to get 20+ Champion's Path packs. If I want to build a competitive standard deck, should I go ahead and open them, or trade them for other cards/packs?

Additionally, is there a place to check for common competitive standard decks?

Was this a good trade ? I figured those were worthless packs and Cleffa's value is outdated on ptcgoprices... but the trade was accepted so fast that I wonder...
