    Are there any official pokemon tourneys for juniors and seniors?

    I know there was the players cup and team challenge but those were for masters. Any for other divisions?

    I'm looking for some feedback or thoughts on something that I'm working on

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 04:27 AM PST

    So for the context I'm planning to make some standard tournaments where certain cards are banned, but also some cards are added from expanded. It would help me out a lot if I could get some feedback on things you would change or add to make an overall slower and more enjoyable standard format a little more similar to older standard formats.

    And for what I've got currently:

    "This tournament will enforce the pass-pass rule, since I feel that not being able to use a supporter turn 1 makes single prize decks struggle more. This pass-pass rule for those that do no know will mean: Player going first will pass without playing anything turn 1 then be able to play a supporter but not evolve or attack turn 2. Player going second will pass without playing anything turn 1 then be able to play a supporter and be able to attack, but not evolve turn 2. Failure to do so may result in a game loss (can be proved by game log).

    With these additions and bans, I would hope to see a slower and more enjoyable format, where more skill is required to win games, instead of currently playing Crushing Hammer, Marnie and Chaotic Swell to brick your opponent out of the game, as well as speeding up the format too much with cards like Dedenne GX and Crobat V enabling ADP and Eternatus to take too many prizes or by one shotting everything.

    This will be an evolving format, where any card may be added or removed to make improvements based on feedback and results

    Cards that will be allowed in addition to Standard format:

    • N - To replace Marnie and Reset Stamp as a more fair disruption and draw power
    • Cynthia - To replace Marnie as an additional draw supporter which doesn't discard
    • Tapu Lele GX - To replace Dedenne GX and Crobat V as a more balanced consistency support Pokémon whilst not making the format faster
    • Custom Catcher - To replace Boss's Orders and Pokémon Catcher as a more fair and skilful gusting option
    • Scorched Earth - So that Blacksmith can be more viable and also aid fighting decks
    • Blacksmith - To replace Welder as a supporter for energy acceleration without the powerful effect of drawing cards as well
    • Kiawe - Another Welder replacement for versatility and more expensive attackers
    • Float Stone - I've found the format to be more enjoyable when anything can have no retreat cost with a tool
    • Gladion - Too many times you lose games due the the 1 card you need being your last prize card, this should lessen that
    • Field Blower - Being able to remove a stadium from play by an item as well as tools I believe is a positive thing and makes it possible for decks to play around Chaotic Swell
    • Weakness Policy - Allows for any deck to remove weakness easily but in a balanced way that could be removed, since I believe weakness in the TCG is currently too impactful
    • Special Charge - Allows decks that rely on cards like twin energy to be viable and allow them to reuse those energies a little easier
    • Ditto Prism Star LOT - Allows single prize and evolution decks to be more viable and I believe should always exist in standard format
    • Bellelba & Brycen Man - Wasn't really a necessary ban
    • Mismagius UNB - Completely unnecessary ban

    Banned card reasons:

    • Zacian V - Too powerful and gate keeps too many Pokémon
    • Crushing Hammer - Too toxic for the current format and a coin flip makes it too frustrating and less skill based
    • Marnie - Too disruptive, often lose games just because your game winning hand is put on the bottom of the deck with no ways to recover the hand unlike cards like N
    • Reset Stamp - Too disruptive and powerful effect for just an item card as well as single sided unlike N
    • Arceus & Dialga & Palkia GX - Taking an extra prize for such easy requirements gate keeps so many decks and speeds up the format too much
    • Boss's Orders - Speeds up the format too much by allowing players to Boss and one shot the supposedly safe bench Pokémon and requires less skill than cards like Custom Catcher
    • Dedenne GX - Speeds up the format too much and enables players to draw too many cards too quickly, unlike Tapu Lele GX which just aids consistency
    • Eternatus VMAX - Too much damage with such an easy requirement and too linear attack style
    • Pokémon Catcher - Coin flip gust effects are too luck based and frustrating for both players, Custom Catcher is a more fair and skilful gust effect
    • Lillie's Poké Doll - With less gusting effects will be too annoying and potentially cause issues
    • Wondrous Labyrinth - Too Disruptive and forces people to play Chaotic Swell which I also wanted to remove
    • Welder - The card shouldn't be drawing cards on top of such an easy and powerful effect of energy acceleration, Kiawe and Blacksmith are more fair and balanced cards
    • Crobat V - Speeds up the format too much and enables players to draw too many cards too quickly, unlike Tapu Lele GX which just aids consistency
    • Centiskorch VMAX - Too much damage and wanting to avoid one shotting VMAX Pokémon
    • Zamazenta V - Too easy of a wall against VMAX Pokémon and with limited gust would be too strong
    • Lucario & Melmetal GX - GX attack is too cheap and easy to pull off and the stronger effect is too disruptive
    • Decidueye - Walls too many multi prize Pokémon with not enough counters outside of Aegislash V and Greninja GX which most decks can't play
    • Obstagoon - Too many basic Pokémon would be unable to do anything, similar to Decidueye
    • Altaria - Walls too many multi prize Pokémon with not enough counters outside of Aegislash V and Greninja GX which most decks can't play
    • Mawile GX - Too often your opponent goes first and through no fault of your own, your support Pokémon which you needed to set up during your first turn is put on your bench with no effect(I would like to ban all TAG TEAM Pokémon and VMAX Pokémon since i believe they were a mistake to be created but it wouldn't leave enough cards to play with)

    (apologies for control players, just trying to work with what we can currently)"

    Thanks for any help I get, as I'm hoping to make a format most enjoyable for everyone.

    Can someone help me build a deck using my favorite Pokemon? (For Standard play)

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 08:53 AM PST

    I'm just getting back into the game after a 2-3 year break. So I don't know the newer cards too well. One thing that burnt me out with playing was this desire to have the best deck. I ended up playing some meta decks that just weren't fun to play. I just want to play a deck featuring some of my favorite Pokemon. Even if it's not going to beat the best decks, I just want to have fun. Of course I'd like the deck to be competitive, but I'm not a great deck builder and need to refamiliarize myself with the cards. So that's why I'm asking you guys!

    My two favorite Pokemon are Manectric and Zapdos. I would prefer these to my main attackers but it's not necessarily a requirement or anything. A build would be greatly appreciated or even any general advice really.

    Soaring Storm Theme Deck In-Depth Guide

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 01:31 PM PST

    Welcome to my guide for the Soaring Storm Theme Deck in PTCGO! It's unfortunately too long to fit in a post by itself, so a Google Doc will have to do. If you happen to give it a read, please let me know in the comments if you have any clarification questions or things that you would have added to it.

    Draw me like one of your french girls

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 08:56 AM PST

    I'm giving away a playset of Jirachi TEU + Scoop Up Net to someone who draws Jirachi. Bonus points if it's in a scoop up net or on an escape board.

    This doesn't have to be a masterpiece, a funny sketch is perfectly fine.

    I'll check this post in about 24h and will pick a winner then.

    Help Newbie getting started

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 03:32 AM PST

    First of i really enjoy the Themedeck Format. I started my first account buying 2 of the new Charizard Decks (as i want to play it in standard) but getting crushed. This is why i restarted with a Relentless Flame deck and o boi is this a good one. Every Pokemon feels good (a department where the new charizard Deck is severly worse). Now i wanted to tip my toes into themeevents.

    To this end i intend to bring the Relentless Flame dec to the table. As this Deck seems so much better than any other Themedeck im contemplaiting whether buying Torrential Cannon is a good choice. First of Blastoise is my fav. Pkmn and second i hope that it counters Relentless Flame (besides them beeing lucky with coinflips). So my question is Torrential Cannon competetive, considering that relentless flame is tier 1 and many people will bring the new charizard deck?

    Also id like to transition to standard (maybe with a real deck and not with lul charizard). Is this transition hindered hard when i buy torrential cannon?

    Has anyone heard anything about what’s next for the PTCGO team challenge?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 09:29 PM PST

    I just qualified this weekend to represent a store by me and I'm so excited, the rep said there's be playoffs in late March but they haven't heard much.

    Has anyone's rep said any more detail or has anyone seen anything online about it?

    Wondering how many people will "qualify" overall, how playoffs might work, how the team aspect will work etc. just really excited and anxious for playoffs!

    First ever tiebreak happened just now. Stunfisk V deck vs mad party. My Stunfisk V won in overtime.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 05:13 PM PST

    The whole game I could only find one of pokemon even though I used professor's research, blue's tactics, Marnie, and two great balls. I kept using trapping bite of course and I had a cape of toughness on. The last knockout, the bunnelby knocked out my only pokemon in play, but of course my trapping bite knocked it out as well for my last prize card I needed to win. Overtime was an easy win, of course. I had two stunfisk v during overtime. Very cool ending. I also play mad party and don't like facing stunfisk v.

    What do you think is the best deck for grinding fast expanded wins at the moment?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 12:52 PM PST

    Trevnoir dead, donk got hit pretty hard (though another variant barely works) and Ultra Necrozma seems to be a joke at the moment.

    * 4 Magikarp CIN 17

    * 4 Gyarados TEU 30

    ##Trainer Cards - 12

    * 1 Brooklet Hill GRI 120

    * 4 Crasher Wake FLI 129

    * 3 Rescue Stretcher GRI 130

    ##Energy - 36

    * 36 Water Energy SWSHEnergy 3

    Total Cards - 60

    ****** Deck List Generated by the Pokémon TCG Online www.pokemon.com/TCGO ******

    So, this is an expanded deck, and the gimmick with this deck is that the Gyarados cards have an attack that cost 1 water energy, that you look at the top 7 cards of your deck. It does 30 more damage for each water energy found, and shuffle the energies back into the deck, and discard the other cards. This can do up to 480 damage in one hit if the opponent is a fire type and I get 7 energies. It's more consistent than you think, I usually use the Alolan Vulpix cards to get 2 of any Pokemon at the start of a match, and it doesn't require energy, and the Crasher Wakes allow you to get any 2 cards at the cost of 2 energies from your hand. Brooklet Hill is just there for more of a convenience, as it allows you to search your deck for any 2 basic water Pokemon. Professor Elm's Lecture allows you to search your deck for up to 3 Pokemon that have 60 or less HP. And finally, the Magikarps have an ability where it prevents damage done to them when they're on the bench. Now that I've explained what each card does since none of these are really used too much in many decks, how would you rate this deck on a scale from 0 to 10? And what constructive criticisms do you have? Thanks for reading this far through and for the criticisms and ratings! Have a nice day/night!

    Edit: I just checked, and this deck, according to the app, has a little under a 50% win rate. I've played 102 matches, and won 47 of them. Not sure how good that is relative to other expanded decks, but it's by far my best deck in expanded. Just figured I'd throw that out there because why not.

    Does anyone know why my attack didn't work on Tranquil?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 01:03 PM PST

    I've just battled Zack using the Mewtwo Mayhem deck I just bought and Nidoking attack does 100 damage to the opponent's active Pokémon and 20 to every bench Pokémon but for some reason Tranquil was the only Pokémon it didn't affect, had no affects attached so no idea why.
