New Player Guide (Part 3: Type Profiles) - Metal Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:48 PM PDT Hiya, I'm Hyla! If you're new to PTCGO, consider reading this series from the beginning, which covers getting started. If you're new to the series and are just interested in reading about different types, consider checking out the other Type Profiles (this links to the first one I completed, Darkness. The bottom of each guide links to the next in the series). As a reminder, these guides focus on the upcoming August 2020 rotation and feature decks meant to give a rough idea of how that Type plays. Here's what TPCi has to say about Metal Pokémon:
This is a reasonable description for the type, though Zacian V, the most prominent Metal-type at the time does not have a damage reduction effect. A popular partner for Zacian V is Arceus & Dialga & Palkia GX, which increases damage. However, we'll be looking at a deck that emphasizes Metal-type durability, combining Zacian V with Lucario & Melmetal GX! That being said, let's start first with Part 1: Metal Support Metal Saucer provides energy acceleration and is seen in every Metal-based deck. Metal Goggles provides a damage reduction effect, and is strictly superior to the popular Big Charm if your Pokémon are Metal-type. Metal Core Barrier provides a larger reduction than Metal Goggles, but it only lasts for one turn and has no secondary effect. It sees little play, especially with Boss's Orders around to completely ignore the barrier. Molayne...exists. The card is bad enough that a new player should be able to figure out that the effect would need an extremely specific deck to make it worthwhile. Jasmine offers a search for any Metal Pokémon, and can get an impressive five if you go second and it's the first turn. If your deck requires comboing out several different Metal Pokémon, you may consider running a copy. The biggest issue is that the card is only useful on the first turn; the "normal" effect is very weak for taking up the Supporter slot. Part 2: Deck Profile - Zacian Melmetal Pokémon (13) Zacian V serves as the deck's main Pokémon. Many decks in the meta currently choose to go second, and Intrepid Sword gives you something to do turn one to prepare for turn two. Additionally, it makes a powerful attacker, able to even OHKO other Zacian V. Lucario & Melmetal-GX is the Pokémon you'll want to set up first. Reducing the damage you take turns several OHKOs into 2HKOs, giving you an advantage on the prize trade. The ability to remove Energy can also be a game-winning effect against slower decks, though it isn't quite as powerful as the same effect found on the previously discussed Rowlet & Exeggutor GX. The rest of your Pokémon are for support on the bench (or, in the case of Jirachi, weaving in and out of the active slot). Trainers (36) Many of these cards are staples discussed in previous guides. I'll point out the irregularities. Four copies of Marnie provides disruption and draw, compared to the usual 2-2 Marnie/Reset Stamp split. With Oranguru, you can put one of your cards back on top of your deck, keeping it after a Marnie. Metal Goggles offers further damage reduction, stacking with Lucario & Melmeltal GX to make Zacian almost impossible to OHKO. As an added bonus, it mitigates the damage counters placed down by opposing Dragapult VMAX and Galarian Zigzagoon. Healing synergizes well with damage reduction, and Mallow & Lana provides enough that even 2HKOs can be difficult to secure against your Zacians. Equally important is Mallow & Lana's switch effect, which helps to get around Zacian V's restriction on attacking consecutively. To further help with this, we include copies of Switch, Air Balloon, and even Scoop Up Net, which can return an active Jirachi to the hand and let Zacian V come back into the active slot. Be careful with Air Balloon, though, as equipping it will prevent you from using Metal Goggles on the same Pokémon. In an emergency, you can use Tool Scrapper to remove your own Balloon/Goggles to switch it out, but it's going to be a very weak play most of the time. Crushing Hammer normally doesn't see play on its own due to its unreliability, but it can secure matchups that are already weak to Lucario & Melmetal GX's boosted GX attack. 11 Energy
Part 3: Other Metal Cards Cobalion GX is a tech that can help against decks focused around Paralysis or Sleep, allowing you to retreat normally. The card doesn't see much use with Zacian due to the decks already having multiple ways of switching out. Alolan Dugtrio provides additional damage reduction, but takes time to set up and offers a very minor benefit. Aegislash has a bigger benefit, but requires setting up a Stage 2. Mawile GX can let you force the opponent to place down cards like Dedenne GX, Crobat V, or Eldegoss V without giving them the chance to use the effect. Solgaleo offers damage reduction for itself. The boost brings it to 220, the same as Zacian V, while remaining a single-prize card. However, it requires getting two different Stage 2 Pokémon into play, and its attack requires more energy for less damage and an effect that is a larger detriment than Zacian's. Galarian Perrserker offers a damage buff, allowing Zacian V to pick up additional OHKOs. However, Zacian typically prefers to partner with Arceus & Dialga & Palkia GX for damage boosting, as the prize-boosting effect wins games. You could consider running Perrserker in there to hit certain OHKOs, but Zacian V already KOs Pokémon V as a baseline and fails to OHKO Pokémon VMAX even with the stacked boosts. If the meta has a lot of Tag Team Pokémon GX, this combination may be more worthwhile. Unlike most evolutions, this one isn't hard to set up, as Galarian Meowth can search it out. Zamazenta V lets you wall out VMAX decks and could be included as a tech. It isn't strong enough to work as a stand-alone deck, though, as the protection is too specific, and VMAX decks can choose not to evolve if they need to hit a Zamazenta. Scizor VMAX (Unreleased) offers more HP than Zacian V and an additional damage reduction effect, but deals less damage, needs to evolve, and doesn't have Intrepid Sword. A deck fully dedicated to control might run this line instead, as the base Scizor V also offers a nice effect, removing Special Energy and Tools from play. Part 4: Conclusion That wraps things up for the Metal-type! With this, we're over halfway through the Type Profiles! If you have any suggestions for any future guides that may be helpful for a new player, let me know in the comments! I'm currently thinking about doing a short article on trading, but am looking for other suggestions as well! And, of course, if you want to share a deck list or mention a card I left out, feel free! Until next time, smell ya later! [link] [comments] |

Does anyone else immediately mute their opponents in versus? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 11:18 AM PDT I've grown so tired of the snarky "well played" and "you have a good deck." I know I shouldn't be surprised by this type of behavior in an online game but it's just annoying. I wish there was a permanent mute function. [link] [comments] |
Expanded NuzzleChu Suggestions Posted: 09 Jul 2020 06:26 AM PDT With the Nuzzle standard deck getting hit by rotation in a couple months, I've started working on an expanded port. I am looking for suggestions as I don't play as much expanded. Thanks! ****** Pokémon Trading Card Game Deck List ****** Pokémon - 21

I really like our artillery dragon dragapult Posted: 09 Jul 2020 04:15 AM PDT So i was planning to create a Dragapult deck, but the regular one not V/Vmax and i have no clue really how much they are worth and if there are any secret combos i need to know like toxtricity x Garbador for example. I would really appreciate decklists to ghelp me getting started [link] [comments] |
What should I spend my tokens on? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 08:54 PM PDT I'm a new player and I have been wondering what I should spend my tokens on. Are the theme decks worth it so I can get the booster packs from trainer challenges? Is there anything else to do with tokens besides buying backs and theme decks? [link] [comments] |
Charizard Theme Deck in Standard Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:51 AM PDT Hey guys, I would like to play the Charizard Theme deck in the standard format. Maybe using rare candy and some supporter stuff. Would this be viable and is it consistent enough to beat e.g. Dragapult in some games? Does anyone have a decklist that might work well? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:43 PM PDT So i know that nobody knows for sure, but what's your guess? I just really don't want to build 80% of the deck only to find out that I can't afford vikavolt lol. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Jul 2020 05:13 PM PDT Hi, i haven't played the game in some time, months, maybe years. I tried to log into my old account (the username and password still autofilled from the last time i played) and it said username or password incorrect. I tried to reset my password, but it said no account was found under my email. anyone know what's going on here? did my account get deleted due to inactivity or something? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 08 Jul 2020 04:25 PM PDT Does anyone know about Pokemon leagues at home happening on EST? I started collecting pokemon mid April (didn't follow the subreddit until may or june). So, I have never been to an in person league. I still work my 8 to 4 job. So, I am looking for something outside work hours. Also, feel free to add any pokemon legue at home you may know (someone may be looking for one for their time as well). Thanks :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Jul 2020 12:04 PM PDT I wanna make a meowth Vmax/Persian meme deck and was curious if there's a coin that could match the deck. Doesn't even have to be a kanto meowth. [link] [comments] |

If you don't already have one and don't know how to make one (skip if so), follow these steps. For PC: Open a new tab and go to this subreddit. Then on the right click "community options", under the joined button. Click the pencil icon and type in your flair of choice. Make sure "Show my user flair on this community" is checked and apply. For mobile: Go to this subreddit and tap on the three dots in the corner, then tap change user flair to type in your flair of choice. Make sure "Show my user flair on this community" is checked and apply. RULES: The only rules are that you have to have that user flair on (max 1 emoji), and I'll pick and announce the 3 most creative in 24 hours! (give or take) The winners will choose any 1 holo and any 1 reverse holo from my binder! All holographics included, like the promo pattern and even common FAs from CEC. You may replace either the holo or reverse holo with a regular card if you wish, but not both. Edit: The number one winner will also get any one additional card in my binder. To get you guys thinking, my user flair is Grinning Gengar. Good luck and of course, have fun! :) [link] [comments] |
Best theme deck before SM era? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 11:21 AM PDT Don't know much about them, started out when Mach Strike was the newest, but just from the fronts, I'm thinking Volcanion/Greninja? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Jul 2020 12:00 PM PDT I bought about 10 tins for $0.25 each. I could trade some of the charizards gx for packs. I can't trade none of the Roaring resolve charizards. I can trade the shiny energy. I can't trade the welders? Anyone have any insight as to why? [link] [comments] |
Decent & Budget Standard/Expanded Deck format Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:17 AM PDT Hi guys, I am still new to PTCGO. I have accumulated 2400 coins, 34 tournament tickets, and owned 2 decks, Mach Strike and Relentless Flame. Originally, I was planning to build a Mach Strike standard deck, but it seems no longer viable since Rescue Stretcher is banned from Standard format. Is there other cards that can bring back Garchomp from discard pile to deck or hand (other than Brock, since it's a supporter)? Or is there other way to make it viable in Standard format? After reading some youtube guides and stuffs, it seems most people recommending getting 2 Laser Focus deck to build a budget Standard deck. I've also seen a Nuzzle Raichu Deck and Weezing+Spiritomb Bench-wipe Deck being recommended too. Among these 3 decks, which is more viable (in terms of winrate) and easy to get? Or is there other better suggestion? Before committing to a standard format deck, I would like to know if Relentless Flame deck works well in Standard format. I may be wrong, but Nidoqueen may take too long to setup compared to Nuzzle Raichu deck? Rare candy Charizard seems pretty strong at some point though (no idea how it works in actual match up). Tl;dr :

Posted: 08 Jul 2020 01:18 PM PDT One of my favorite decks right now is a Lapras VMAX mobile deck- throw down energy with snom, move it to active with Quagsire. I just realized today that DM is rotating out, which means my Quagsires aren't going to work for standard anymore. Does anyone know of any similar cards or strategies for doing a similar 'gimmick'? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 09:13 AM PDT I know there is a trade in the app but I'm looking for something on the web. [link] [comments] |
What happened to the wild Tapu Lele GX trades? Posted: 08 Jul 2020 12:56 PM PDT Hi all, got back from roughly a year or so break from PTCGO and realized that my Tapu Lele GX, which people used to offer up to 80 packs for, is now worth a measly 2 packs or so on the trade market???? What the hell happened? [link] [comments] |
