    Do cheaters exist?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 07:44 PM PST

This isn't the first time this has happened but up until now I just thought it was a glitch.

I was in a tournament, had the match in the bag as soon as they ended their turn. But before they did, they said you have a good deck and started spamming happy emojis. Then my timer started ticking down. They never ended their turn and while I say there unable to do anything my turn timer ran down to zero then both timers stayed frozen.

Checked my internet connection and everything was running fine like normal. After a good 10 minutes I just decided to close the app. When I reopened it said the tournament was over and the guy I played went on to the championship match and won that too... convenient.

Like I said, I had this happen once or twice before but chalked it up to the game glitching. But the fact that he was spamming emojis and could still do emojis when everything was frozen really bothers me.

Is it possible that there is an exploit that needs to be removed or should I bust out the tin foil hat?

Poke Balls: A Guide For Beginners

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 09:11 AM PST

    Preface

Getting a Pokemon from the deck into your hand is a necessity and having the Pokemon you wanted to use in the game increase the chances of you winning more games. So how can we execute this consistently and more reliable? Well in todays topic, we will go through all the Poke Balls item card.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Poké Ball Flip a coin. If heads, search your deck for a Pokémon, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Shuffle your deck afterward. Search any Pokemon ranging from Basic until VMAX. No discard needed. One attempt of coin flip. The God of RNJESUS. Standard, Expanded and Legacy

The range of Pokemon you can get from the deck is as good as Ultra Ball or Master Ball plus you don't need to discard anything but with coin flip, consistency will be an issue in your deck. At higher levels of play, getting exactly the Pokemon that you need at the right time is vital. Try to stay away from this if possible unless you are trolling and having fun.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Dual Ball Flip 2 coins. For each heads, search your deck for a Basic Pokémon, show it to your opponent, and put it into your hand. If you do, shuffle your deck afterward. Two chances of coin flip for getting either one or two basic Pokemon. Two attempt of coin flips. Do or die. Legacy

If you love playing Legacy with many Basic Pokemon in the deck, Dual Ball is your option since there is no Quick Ball in this format. Compared to Poke Ball, you can get either two, one or none Basic Pokemon into your hand. There's still an element of RNG so it's either hit or miss, which is okay I guess in the Legacy format.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Great Ball Look at the top 7 cards of your deck. You may reveal a Pokémon you find there and put it into your hand. Shuffle the other cards back into your deck. Search any Pokemon ranging from Basic until VMAX. No discard needed. Doesn't work too well with low amount of Pokemon in the deck. Standard, Expanded and Legacy

Basically it's similar to Poke Ball but there are no coin flips involved. There's a catch. Since it's can only grab you a Pokemon from the top 7 cards of your deck, this will be useful within decks that has high amount of Pokemon available, such as Stage 1 and Stage 2 deck. The higher the amount of Pokemon, the greater the chance of it providing you with 3-4 options of Pokemon at once.

Decks such as Eternatus, Mad Party and Lost March benefits greatly from Great Ball.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Cherish Ball Search your deck for a Pokémon-GX, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck. Search any Pokemon GX with 100% rate. No discard needed. Most of the time it is only used within GX heavy decks or decks with GX attackers. Standard and Expanded

If you are running GX heavy decks Pokemon, Cherish Ball might be your best bet. This means you can get any Basic GX Pokemon or Stage 1/Stage 2 GX Pokemon at your disposal without fail.

Decks such as Pikarom, Mewtwo/Mew, Reshizard, Zacian ADP, Lucario Melmetal, Reshiram/Zekrom usually incorporate Cherish Ball.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Quick Ball You can play this card only if you discard another card from your hand. Search your deck for a Basic Pokémon, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck. Search any Basic Pokemon with 100% rate. Discard a card, albeit the consequences is nearly minimal to none. Doesn't provide evolution cards. Standard and Expanded

Quick Ball quickly find it place in competitive scene due to how versatile it is. It can only search for a Basic Pokemon, which makes you think it's not that great at first but let's grasp this for a moment.

All of these counted as Basic Pokemon:

    1. Pokemon Tag Team GX
    2. Pokemon GX (except Stage 1 and Stage 2)
    3. Pokemon V
    4. Pokemon EX
    5. Pokemon Prism Star
    6. Any basic pokemon that evolves to Stage 1 and Stage 2

The range it cover is huge and with the metagame right now, you can't go wrong with having four Quick Balls in your deck. You only have to discard one card from your hand in order to use this but most of the time it's never been a problem in the first place. Most player discard their energies and it can be shuffle back into their hand or deck using cards such as Fire Crystal, Metal Saucer, Nessa, Turbo Patch, Training Court, Ordinary Rod, Energy Recycle System, Energy Recycler, Aqua Patch or Energy Retrieval. Certain deck strategy discard a Supporter or Pokemon such as Leon and Darkrai GX.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Net Ball Search your deck for a Basic [G] Pokémon or a [G] Energy card, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck. Search any Basic [G] Pokemon or [G] energy with 100% rate. Grass deck heavy only and no grass evolution cards. Expanded

Most of the time Net Ball is useful within grass deck. It also gives you options if you want to grab a grass energy, providing you don't need any more Pokemon or whatsoever.

It is used in decks such as Rillaboom, Rowlet Exeggutor Rillaboom, Sceptile Vileplume or Celebi Venusaur.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Beast Ball Look at your face-down Prize cards. You may reveal an Ultra Beast card you find there, put it into your hand, and put this Beast Ball in its place. (If you don't reveal an Ultra Beast card, put this card in the discard pile.) Then, shuffle your face-down Prize cards. Deck with Ultra Beast prized in the prize cards. Only works with Ultra Beast Pokemon. Expanded

Nothing to say here to be honest. It is mostly used in Naganadel Box deck, which you can refer here as an example.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Friend Ball Search your deck for a Pokémon with the same type as 1 of your opponent's Pokémon in play, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck. Works well with mirror matchup or meta decks. Consistency if playing against deck that doesn't have the same Pokemon type. Expanded

There's a very great chance that if you are playing for sometimes, you will stumble against mirror matchup or meta decks which makes Friend Ball comes into handy. Examples would be, ADPZ mirror, Lucmetal VS Combo Zacian or Psychic Malamar. Not to mention cards like Crobat V and Dedenne GX which frequently used as draw supporter can increase the effectiveness of Friend Ball. The thing is it's not very common so some player might put just one of this into their deck.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Lure Ball Flip 3 coins. For each heads, put an Evolution Pokémon from your discard pile into your hand. Works well with discarding certain Pokemon from your deck and getting them back for reuse. Only works with specific decks or strategy. Expanded

Mostly used with the combination of Roxie + Koffing/Weezing, Alolan Sandslash GX or Garchomp/Giratina. The spread damage setup from Koffing/Weezing discarded using Roxie allows a combination/strategy and increase the effectiveness of those Pokemon mentioned above.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Ultra Ball Discard 2 cards from your hand. (If you can't discard 2 cards, you can't play this card.) Search your deck for a Pokémon, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Shuffle your deck afterward. Search any Pokemon ranging from Basic until VMAX. The discard amount is heavy and costly for certain decks. Expanded and Legacy

While Quick Ball is king in Standard, Ultra Ball is the king in Expanded. It can gives you any Pokemon that you want whether it's basic or evolution card. In order to balance the power of this card, you have to remove two cards from your hand which is acceptable for some decks such as Trevenant/Duksnoir, Mad Party, Archie's Blastoise, Turbo Dark, Ho-oh/Reshiram Zekrom or Fire Box with lots of Fire Energy which can be recycled with Fire Crystal.

For certain deck though, the discard cost is heavy and punishable because you have to discard important cards at time. Most of expanded decks that have Ultra Balls incorporate about two of them. If you prefer to skip the heavy cost of this item but want to have a reliable Stage 1/ Stage 2 or VMAX, you can opt for Evolution Incense or Pokemon Communication instead.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Timer Ball Flip 2 coins. For each heads, search your deck for an Evolution Pokémon, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck. Search any Stage 1, Stage 2 or VMAX evolution and get two of those at once. Coin Flips; again. Expanded

The RNJesus strikes again. I hate coin flips element in my deck so I would definitely avoid this. If you get lucky, you can get two evolution cards at once but if both of them are tails, then you are screwed.

You can get more consistencies out of Evolution Incense, Pokemon Communication, Pokemon Breeder's Nurturing or Evosoda.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Nest Ball Search your deck for a Basic Pokémon and put it onto your Bench. Then, shuffle your deck. Search any Basic Pokemon with 100% rate. No discard needed. Doesn't provide evolution cards and can't be used if your bench is full. Expanded

If you want the effect of Quick Ball without discarding anything, then Nest Ball is for you. Keep in mind that it doesn't provide you any evolution stage card and since it automatically will put the Pokemon you choose into your bench, this doesn't work well with cards that needed to be play "from your hand" such as Dedenne GX, Crobat V or Tapu Lele GX. If you have these kind of Pokemon in your deck, Quick Ball is still your best option. Sonia or Pokemon Fan Club is also an option for to consider as well for basic Pokemon.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Heavy Ball Search your deck for a Pokémon with a Retreat Cost of 3 or more, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Shuffle your deck afterward. Search any Pokemon with a Retreat Cost of 3 or more without discarding anything from your hand. Only fits into certain decks with certain basic or evolution cards with criteria mentioned. Expanded and Legacy

This provides you with any Pokemon that you need whether it's basic or evolution card with a retreat cost of 3 or more. Wailord, Gyarados and Abomasnow, just to name a few.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Level Ball Search your deck for a Pokémon with 90 HP or less, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Shuffle your deck afterward. Most of basic (Non EX, GX or Tag Team) and certain Stage 1 Pokemon has 90 HP or less which makes it very consistent for most decks. Doesn't work well with Stage 2 decks or decks with heavy EX, GX, Tag Team and V/VMAX Pokemon. Standard (in August 2021), Expanded and Legacy

This card is quite versatile in its own category. You can build a deck which requires certain Stage 1 Pokemon with abilities that increase the effectiveness of your deck. Pokemon such as Octillery, Cinccino, Marshadow or Mr Mime are definitely the candidates of Level Ball.

Great news for us. Level Ball has been reprinted which mean it August, it will be a legal card in standard. Talk about options!

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Dive Ball Search your deck for a [W] Pokémon, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Shuffle your deck afterward. Any Pokemon ranging from Basic to VMAX, as long as it is a [W] Pokemon. Only gives [W] Pokemon. Expanded

Mostly used in Greninja, Gyarados and Primal Kyogre. For modern meta, the combination of it alongside Quick Ball for decks such as Lapras VMAX, Magikarp Wailord or the future Blastoise VMAX is also a possibility in Expanded.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Repeat Ball Search your deck for a Pokémon with the same name as 1 of your Pokémon in play, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Shuffle your deck afterward. If you want to build a deck full of Unowns or Magikarps. Only works with certain decks. Expanded

Mostly for decks such as Greninja, Gardevoir, Sceptile or modern Falinks V deck.

Card Name Description Pros Cons Legality
Master Ball Search your deck for a Pokémon, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Shuffle your deck afterward. Search any Pokemon ranging from Basic until VMAX without discarding a card. It's an Ace Spec card. Expanded and Legacy

It's a Master Ball, so it must be good right? Not really, unless you are playing Pokemon Red randomized so you can catch that Mewtwo on Route 22 in Viridian City. Since it's an Ace Spec card, you can only have one of this in your deck. Why would anyone put this when they can have Dowsing Machine or the one and only Computer Search and have more impact in their deck.

Alternative "Get a Pokemon" cards for Standard format:

For beginners, Standard format is the best introduction to competitive level of play. Since there are only fewer expansions cards that are legal which currently is from Team Up) until onwards, there are less shenanigans that might overwhelm new players as a whole. Rotations keeps the game healthy and opens up a whole new strategy and possibility.

Since rotations will keep your option limited in Standard, here are the cards that can be considered in your decks. Keep in mind that you can only play one Supporter and Stadium card per turn and unlimited amount of Item cards per turn, so your options might vary depending on your need.

    Card Name Description
Nessa (Supporter) For water deck Pokemon, Nessa is a great option to recycle back either your [W] Pokemon or [W] Energy from your discard pile.
Piers (Supporter) Very handy in Eternatus deck since most of the strategy involves [D] Pokemon in play. Also can be useful to include one copy in a deck for getting that Crobat V or Galarian Zigzagoon.
Sonia (Supporter) For certain decks, getting as many Basic Pokemon in play as possible is important to get the strategy going. Sonia can either get you two Basic Pokemon or two Basic Energy cards.
Turffield Stadium (Stadium) For grass decks such as Rillaboom or Decidueye. Also synergize well with specific cards such as Caterpie, Metapod and Butterfree.
Familiar Bell (Item) Good for deck that have the same Pokemon name.
Pokemon Breeder's Nurturing (Supporter) Works well with lots of Basic Pokemon that have Stage 1 attacker such as Gyarados deck.
Evolution Incense (Item) Solid choice and staple for decks with evolution cards. With this, you are pretty much guaranteed any Stage 1/Stage 2/ VMAX . Very popular in VMAX decks such as Centiskorch, Coalossal or Lapras.
Poke Kid (Supporter) A supporter card with the effect of Ultra Ball. You can get any type of Pokemon directly into your hand without discarding anything. The only bad thing is that it's a Supporter card, which limits you other option to use another Supporter card in the same turn.
Lana's Fishing Rod (Item) In a circumstances where you discard an important Pokemon or Pokemon Tool using Quick Ball, you can shuffle them back into the deck.
Professsor Oak's Setup (Supporter) If you played multiple types of Basic Pokemon in your deck, this can get you three different types of Basic Pokemon automatically into your bench. If you have "play from your hand" Pokemon, this might not be the best option.
Brock's Grit (Supporter) Good for discard heavy strategy decks where some of important energy or Pokemon goes into the discard pile in a very rapid manner. Deck such as Excadrill benefits a lot from this.
Poke Maniac (Supporter) If you have any Pokemon with Retreat Cost of exactly 4, this is super good and dandy because it cover
Pokémon Research Lab (Stadium) For Pokemon such as Omanyte/Omastar, Cranidos/Rampardos or Aerodactyl. Synergize well with Unidentified Fossil.
Jasmine (Supporter) Works with strategy that involves getting many [M] Pokemon in play as fast as possible.
Pokemon Communication (Item) This card is godly and staple in Standard Format. Basically you trade any Pokemon from your hand with another Pokemon in your deck. Doesn't matter if it's Basic, EX, GX or evolutions, Pokemon Communication will cover all your needs.

That's it for this content. I hope your learn something good and have fun!

That's 3 fire energy attachments on Blacephalon and 10 in hand. I couldn't believe my eyes... kudos to whoever pulled that off! Still couldn't deal with my second one though :p

    Decidueye Deep Forest Camo confusion

    Posted: 19 Jan 2021 01:31 AM PST

So deep forest camo says AbilityDeep Forest Camo

Prevent all damage done to this Pokémon by attacks from your opponent's Pokémon V and Pokémon-GX.

I used Lucario v's Aura Sphere

    Aura Sphere

40This attack also does 20 damage to 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.)

How does camo prevent the 20 damage to the benched Pokemon?

    Posted: 18 Jan 2021 02:30 PM PST

Hi! So I've been playing Orbeetle since it dropped and hadn't really see that many pop up until very recently. I actually just ran into five in a row on the ladder and I was wondering if something with the meta happened to make it so popular. If so, and there is a decklist that's doing well, I'd love to know so I can maybe look to improve my own setup!
