    All Pokemon in play knocked out!

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 12:35 PM PDT

    Dear Pokémon Company, please don’t kill Smeargle by rotating basic fairy energy out of Standard

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 06:38 PM PDT

    I posted this as a joke a few weeks ago, but I'm serious now… Smeargle is my favourite Pokémon and I was ecstatic to learn he would be in Evolving Skies! After trying it with and without fairy energy, I can say that Smeargle absoIutely needs it, like, it's the difference between OHKOing VMAX with CRE Inteleon or not. I get that Fairy type is being phased out but you've introduced a new budget deck archetype and destroying it two weeks later! Sure, get rid of fairy Pokémon, but keeping basic fairy energy legal doesn't harm anyone. Don't kill Smeargle!

    Expanded variants for the new Drampa

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 07:12 AM PDT

    Hey, so I kind of wanted to have a single prizer version of the old Drampa-GX, and the new set has given me exactly that; well not exactly, as this Drampa can actually attack for a single attachment.

    I think this qualifies as budget? Apart from the CPU search, but you can substitute that with any other tutor card that boosts consistency. If you want to be really greedy you can also include ADP on any of these lists (I think it fits with the Altaria version the most) but since I personally hate that card I'm not using it.

    Tell me what you think of the lists and which one (if any) you prefer.

    1st version: Spiritomb & Devoured Fields

    This version relies only on Spiritomb to get damage counters on your bench and also uses it as a backup attacker. Devoured Fields boosts the damage of both Drampa and Spiritomb.

    Pokémon - 11

    * 1 Crobat V

    * 3 Spiritomb UNB

    * 4 Drampa EVS

    * 1 Mew UNB

    * 1 Remoraid

    * 1 Octillery BKT

    Trainers - 42

    * 3 Professor Sycamore

    * 1 Computer Search

    * 2 Hustle Belt

    * 1 Rescue Stretcher

    * 1 Pokémon Ranger

    * 1 Bruno

    * 1 Super Rod

    * 4 Quick Ball

    * 4 Random Receiver

    * 1 Special Charge

    * 2 Field Blower

    * 1 Teammates

    * 1 Cynthia

    * 3 Level Ball

    * 1 Lana's Fishing Rod

    * 1 Guzma

    * 1 N

    * 3 Ultra Ball FCO

    * 3 Devoured Field

    * 3 Muscle Band

    * 4 VS Seeker

    Energy - 7

    * 4 Double Dragon

    * 3 Darkness

    -----------------------------------------------------------

    2nd version: Altaria & Po Town

    This version focuses on trying to dish out as much damage with Drampa as possible. Spiritomb is still there so that you can attack on T1 with Drampa, but it's less significant as an attacker.

    Pokemon - 16

    * 1 Ditto {*}

    * 3 Swablu

    * 1 Crobat V

    * 2 Spiritomb UNB

    * 4 Drampa EVS

    * 3 Altaria DRM

    * 1 Mew UNB

    * 1 Octillery BKT

    Trainers - 38

    * 3 Professor Sycamore

    * 1 Computer Search

    * 2 Rescue Stretcher

    * 4 Po Town

    * 1 Pokémon Ranger

    * 1 Bruno

    * 3 Quick Ball

    * 3 Random Receiver

    * 1 Special Charge

    * 2 Field Blower

    * 1 Teammates

    * 1 Cynthia

    * 3 Level Ball

    * 1 Guzma

    * 1 N

    * 3 Ultra Ball

    * 3 Muscle Band

    * 4 VS Seeker

    Energy - 6

    * 4 Double Dragon

    * 2 Darkness

    ---------------------------------------------------------

    3rd version: Garbodor & Po Town

    This version is the most reminiscent of the old Drampa-GX/Garbodor lists that were very popular in the beginning of the Sun&Moon era. I still included 1 Spiritomb so that Drampa can attack on T1 without having to evolve a Garbodor with Po Town in play, but Garbo with Trashalanche will most likely be used as the secondary attacker. I also included a Marshadow; since this list uses Mysterious Treasure it's basically a searchable Field Blower against Chaotic Swell. You can't use it anymore if you set up Garbotoxin though so watch out for that.

    Pokémon - 16

    * 1 Crobat V

    * 1 Spiritomb UNB

    * 4 Drampa EVS

    * 1 Marshadow UNB

    * 1 Mew UNB

    * 1 Tapu Lele-GX

    * 3 Trubbish BKP

    * 2 Garbodor DRX (Garbotoxin)

    * 2 Garbodor GRI

    Trainer Cards - 37

    * 3 Professor Sycamore

    * 1 Computer Search

    * 4 Mysterious Treasure

    * 2 Rescue Stretcher

    * 4 Po Town

    * 1 Pokémon Ranger

    * 1 Bruno

    * 1 Special Charge

    * 4 Float Stone

    * 1 Teammates

    * 1 Cynthia

    * 1 Guzma

    * 1 Field Blower

    * 1 N

    * 4 Ultra Ball

    * 3 Muscle Band

    * 4 VS Seeker

    Energy - 7

    * 4 Double Dragon

    * 3 Rainbow

    We have delays in physical products in the land down under but I used my coins to get 55 locked packs. This was my very first pack of Evolving Skies. Not complaining that its locked as I plan to run rayquaza vmax. Plus reverse moltres is pretty dope too.

    Budget Deck

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 05:40 AM PDT

    I am looking for suggestions for a standard budget deck. I having been playing about 3 or so weeks so my collection is fairly limited. I do have 11 chilling reign tradable packs and 7 battle styles to use for trades though. Originally, I thought I would try to go for the Shadow Rider deck but am realizing I don't have nearly the resources needed to actually trade for those cards! I really am interested in standard play and want something that I can use post rotation as well. Thanks For the help!

    PSA: Piers can search for special energy cards and will be the only Standard trainer post-rotation that can do so

    Posted: 28 Aug 2021 10:17 AM PDT

    With both Triple Acceleration Energy and Guzma and Hala rotating out soon, a lot of decks using Pokemon with double colourless attack costs (e.g. Mad Party, Whimsicott, Salazzle, Ball Juggling Mr Rime and of course Smeargle) will be left with just Twin Energy and limited ways to search for it.

    You may not know that, despite only being able to search for Dark type Pokemon, the supporter card Piers can actually search for any energy card, including special energy, and will be the only Standard trainer post-rotation that can do so. I would recommend adding Galarian Zigzagoon (edit - or Crobat V) to your deck to get the most out of him!

    Edit - Bonus tip: If you're updating your decks for rotation, check to see if you can now replace your basic energies with special energy! For example...

    Blaziken / Zeraora can use Speed L Energy once Tapu Koko Prism Star leaves

    Leonzard can use Heat F Energy once Welder / Giant Hearth / Fire Crystal leaves (actually, you're better off using Basic Fire Energy and Exp Share for this deck, my bad)

    Decidueye can use Aromatic G Energy once Rosa leaves

    RS Urshifu can use Stone F Energy once Martial Arts Dojo leaves
