What is the meta like for standard tournaments?

    Posted: 17 Jan 2020 02:45 AM PST

What is the meta like for standard tournaments? I have not played standard tournaments yet but I do have a bunch of tickets to do so. I am trying to get an idea of what I am up against so I don't waste tickets. 8 tickets a tournament is expense to me. Is it like Versus but more of the competitive decks? Any decks you recommend I play with to maximize my chance of winning?

    GX rate from packs

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 10:00 AM PST

Is there an established rate of getting GX (or ex even) cards from packs? I'm mostly asking because while I had played PTCGO a little bit years ago, a week or 2 ago I started up again with my son who is just getting into pokemon. I haven't tracked exactly how many packs we've each opened (not a bunch) but while he has 8 GX cards from his packs, I have 0. He's at the age where he's starting to learn about odds and such and so I thought it would be nice/fun for me to be able to change my standard answer of "You're so lucky" when he gets an EX/GX to "This is how lucky you are". Will be good mental food for him as well as make him feel good knowing his luck (to this point) has been pretty exceptional (or maybe I'm just exceptionally unlucky lol).

Does anyone else play a deck that actually exists as part of their physical card collection?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 09:32 PM PST

I tried it recently and I'm having a blast with it. Granted it's a necromza battle deck, with a bunch of modifications, so it was kind of easy, but it's an exact replica of the one I have in my room.

I have a rule that I must have a physical copy of every card in the deck. I like it that if I were to play a physical card game I'd know exactly what I'm doing.

    Building Deck Tips

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 04:53 PM PST

Hi! I've been playing for a few weeks now, so has my husband. I'm doing fantastic with theme decks as well as GX Tin decks in standard in Versus.

However, I have many other cards I'd like to utilize and make my own decks. So far they are not great. And I am hoping to hear more ideas of what makes a good custom deck.

So far the 20 Pokemon -20 trainer - 20 energy to start seems like a good rule.

Draw 3 cards, switch, shuffle, etc.

How do you typically decide how to balance the Pokémon in a deck?

    Expensive deck boxes and sleeves

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 02:18 PM PST

Hello, I am looking to pick up an "expensive" deck box and sleeves in the near future for around 500-1000 packs and was wondering why most of em have gone up like 10x the price in only 1 year. Like I saw a post that is around 1 year old saying Mega blastoise deck box/sleeves are only around 80 packs and a Sableye Halloween Set for only 100 packs whice sound insane.

    Should I buy a deck?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 01:42 PM PST

I have nearly 500 coins and it looks like every desk costs that much. Should I buy a deck? Is there a really good one for beginners? I prefer something with eevee and their evolutions

    Fix/Rate my Deck

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 01:18 PM PST

    Hey all,

I am newish to PTCG, I've only been playing on and off about 6 months or so. (i started during Buzzwole GX month last year)

Recently I've been tweaking my expanded deck for a bit but I am not quite sure I have my item cards where I want them. Any advice or criticism would be greatly appreciated.

****** Pokémon Trading Card Game Deck List ******

    Pokémon - 15

    • 4 Inkay FLI 50
    • 4 Malamar FLI 51
    • 1 Giratina LOT 97
    • 1 Tapu Lele GX GRI 60
    • 1 Nihilego GX CIN 49
    • 2 Dawn Wings Necrozma GX UPR 63
    • Trevenant & Dusknoir GX SM217
    • Lunala UPR 62

    Trainer Cards - 34

    • 4 Cynthia
    • 3 Professor Sycamore
    • 1 Lysandre Labs
    • 1 Power Plant
    • 2 Viridian Forest
    • 2 Spell Tag
    • 1 Big Malasada
    • 1 Cherish Ball
    • 1 Field Blower
    • 2 Great Catcher
    • 2 Max Either
    • 1 Max Potion
    • 4 Mysterious Treasure
    • 2 Pokegear 3.0
    • 1 Pokemon Communication
    • 1 Professor's Letter
    • 1 Random Receiver
    • 1 Scoop Up Cyclone
    • 2 Switch
    • 1 Vs Seeker

    Energy - 11

    • 11 Psychic Energy

The way I play my deck is to try to get Necrozma attacking on my second turn. Ideally, I use either Cynthia or Sycamore every turn to quickly rotate through my cards. I get what energy I can into my discard pile, using Viridian forest and other discard cards. I like to have 2 Malamar's on my bench which lets me quickly energize my pokemon. Giratina and Lunala are mainly there to fight Hoopa's and Keldeo GX. Power Plant is also there in case I am being trapped by some GX or EX abilities. Nihilego is used purely to confuse a powerful enemy in a desperate situation. (I've attacked like once in 30+ games with him)

I actually win most of my matches and have a good ability to come back if I fall behind. That being said I'd like to push the deck to be more competitive and I feel like my item cards might be the area lacking.

Please let me know what you all think and how I can improve my deck.

    Thanks

    4TH star packs?

    Posted: 16 Jan 2020 09:30 AM PST

Are the packs for the 4th star on trainer challenge already determined, or is it random? Or is the pack you get decided on by the theme deck you use?
