[Discussion] Why are cards so expensive nowadays?

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 05:55 AM PDT

It seems like staples in the past, like Lele, Shaymin, etc, were only ever worth around 20-25 packs at their peak and they were almost a mandatory 1-3 of in almost every deck. Why are new staples, that essentially just replaced these cards in Standard as consistency cards, close to twice as much?

Similar examples are attackers or the main Pokemon a deck is built around. The first expensive cards that come to mind are things like Zoroark and Buzzwole, that were ruling the meta when I last played, but they were only ever 8-12 packs, where as now things like ADP and Zacian are twice as much.

Even tech GXs that are only used in 1-2 decks as a 1 or 2 of are going for like 6 packs now where as in the past, they would have been 1-3.
What has made things so expensive in the game now? Less players? More players? I thought having all the booster packs available in the shop would cause prices to drop on things, but they seem to have held the same price or even gone up. What am I missing?

[Deck Building] From Theme Decks to Expanded or Standard

    Posted: 29 Apr 2020 08:21 AM PDT

So I've mostly played theme decks and earlier I made a post about what format I could move to. Most recommended Legacy as my go to format, from the info I provided. Getting Legacy cards isn't that easy though.

So I have almost no understanding of the meta in Expanded or Standard. Is there any viable decks I could make out of these mons below? I have more, just thought these would be the most useful. Also I have more than 1 of each of the cards below.

I can get most supporters and items. Also able to get most mons that isn't super expensive. But I would like something from these cards. I know this is extensive, but I still hope people would be willing to help out a theme deck player.

    Help with my decks consistency

The ddck focuses on having more prizes than my opponent, while using roxies to damage spread. I find that i brick a lot at time with having to pass due to no energies or pokemon that can attack. Thinking of cutting the Mistrevaus line to 2 of the basic and 1 of the evolution

Prevent attacks from V pokemon ability?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:28 PM PDT

I have a water deck that I really like to play Keldo GX in since he can counter a lot of people's decks with his ability.

Is there any new card out there that can prevent V pokemon attacks? I know Zamazenta has it for VMAX but I havent seen anything of just V pokemon.

[Deck Help] What ways can I tech an Expanded Snorlax VMax deck for Honchcrow?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 08:17 PM PDT

I was really excited to put this deck together, but one of my first matches was against Honchcrow, so since I was only running Triple Acceleration Energy, I had to concede.
So far I can only think of playing a Wobbuffet or switching to a Welder version of the deck. Are there any other ways to tech against Honchcrow when playing a deck that only runs special energy now that Hex Maniac is gone?

    Things I miss.

What happened to Legacy tournaments? Why even have all those legacy booster packs available in the shop if we can't use them in a tournament? Also, what ever happened to the mega tournaments with a higher risk and reward? Maybe it's the gambler in me talking, but they really need to spice things up on the tournament side, it's kind of boring having the same tournament games all the time . Who's with me?!?

Returning player - trade for packs now or wait until Rebel Clash on Thursday?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:02 PM PDT

So, I've been gone from the game for almost 5 years. I have some extras of valuable older cards such as secret rares, comp search, dowsing, HGSS stuff, even a play set of beaches. I want to unload some stuff for packs and then build my collection with newer staples and usable cards to build some new decks for expanded. Would it be best if I just waited for the new set? How do pack values swing when a new set launches?

For example, if something is going for 10 SSH right now, can I expect to get 10 REC in a few days? I'm worried if I amass a bunch of SSH right now, then nobody will want them or they will be undervalued by this weekend.

Newbie looking for some advice regarding deck building, Rebel Clash and Rotation

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:36 AM PDT

Hello! I've recently got back into the game and this time I hope to eventually move out of Theme. I'm looking at either Standard or Expanded. Seeing as I have a full set of Emolga and Pikachu (including one SR), I've been interested in Nuzzle but I'm open to other ideas for budget decks. I understand that in Standard with the rotation, the deck loses some support like Electropower. I'm not sure about how the deck performs in Expanded. I played back when Shaymin-EX was on a Versus ladder, so I have 1 tradelocked copy of it, is that a good start for building an Expanded deck? I understand that once Rebel Clash comes out, SSH packs will lose value, so should I trade the ones I have off, and if so, what cards should I target (looking for trainers or cheap and useful Pokémon)? What should I do with tradable packs from out of rotation expansions (I have a couple from Forbidden Light and beyond)? Thanks everyone.

    Question about value!

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:59 PM PDT

Hey guys, I've recently came back to playing Pokémon TCG around a year ago, and also just started playing online not that long ago. Does anyone have any sources like links or graphs about a value of the card/pack online? I'm looking to trade my sword and shield packs, but obviously don't want to get into a bad trade.

Stupid question re: Dual Laser Focus deck

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:54 PM PDT

So I heard people say the only viable standard deck to be made from theme decks was the laser focus deck then I stumbled on this post.

    2 things...

    1- Is it still viable?

2- I know they just announced everything from TeamUp forward would be in the next rotation but saw others sad about no more Malamar, which is in this deck? Clearly I'm a noob but isn't everything in this deck from Unified Minds, so won't be rotated out?

Can't Make A Good Standard Deck

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:15 PM PDT

Just returned to Pokemon tcgo for first time since last September. In the Expanded format I have a Greninja & Zoroark with Incineroar GX deck which got me 7 wins in a row, still working very well, getting 1 hit KOs and in Legacy so does Plasma Lugia EX. Over in standard though I'm playing a Rayquaza GX, Magnezone and Zebstrika deck from that's getting wiped straight out. I know I am a bit behind as Sword and Shield have released a bunch of new cards. Is there a good deck you can suggest?

    Meta Changes and Questions

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:23 AM PDT

Hey there all, long time fan of the Pokemon series and semi regular PTCGO player here

Ive recently decided to jump back into PTCGO after a lengthy dryspell

however, what I forgot was going to be daunting about this is the whole meta change. Admittedly, I dropped off somewhere between the ultra prism whatever the following expansion was. I at least remember owning the empoleon theme deck for ultra prism.

Part of the departure was due to the meta changes that caused it to become far to slow and too stale for me. Seeing how draw supporters were very limited (no more sycamore) and such. I just felt at a loss and ended up shifting my attention away.

Now that I see some changes were made, including the new "cant supporter on turn 1" im actually curios to delve back in but i am lost. I would like to know what the new deck orientations are looking like and what I should be focusing on.

If so, could anyone provide a meta ready staple list, IE. the cards that are most common, draw supports, tools, stadiums, and what I should look for in deck composition?

P.S right before i dropped off i used a Honchkrow/weavile deck (rouge deck) to power through a lot of the ability focused pokemon. I doubt i could bring any of that into standards. But any suggestions for something similar might help a ton (i am aware of the honckrow GX deck)

Looking forward to jumpting back in. Any advice helps! Thanks

Do you need four Zacians, or is three good enough?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:22 AM PDT

I have 3 trade locked Zacians and one that isn't. Does any deck really need four Zacians? Am I safe to trade away the unlocked Zacian? I was thinking of doing it after the new set comes out, but before the Zacian box drops. Thanks for your help!
