    Pokemon Haiku Giveaway (8 hours)

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 11:47 PM PDT

One entry per person. 12 Hidden Fates codes to hand out.

    Hey gang,

For a fun little game, let's get our Poke-poetry on.

Haikus follow this pattern: 5 syllables, then 7 syllables, then 5 syllables. Your answer must follow the same rules. For example:

    A-lo-lan Me-owth, (5)

    Dark-er than a norm-al cat, (7)

But still just as soft. (5)

Make sure you put the name of a Pokemon in your haiku, and I'll choose randomly between the valid answers tomorrow morning (8 hours from now). 12 winners will receive 1 Hidden Fates code each. I'll also toss in 5 Shining Legends codes for my favorites (which I'll give out behind the scenes). I'll be sleeping at some point, but I really appreciate all the fun answers and will do my best to respond to everyone tonight or tomorrow!

Pack Opening Guessing Game (4 Winners!)

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 08:10 PM PDT

UPDATE: I'm getting downvoted for giving out free codes, so this quickly fell off the front page. I'm gonna just give out what I have to people who already commented. CLOSED. It was Steam Siege.

The answer has been guessed at least once, as a further hint. And since Unbroken Bonds and Team Up have both been guessed 4 times, I can confirm it is not either of those sets! Keep a-guessing!

ONE GUESS OF ONE SET PER PERSON. PLEASE INCLUDE THE GENERATION AND SET NAME. I WON'T BE CONFIRMING THE ANSWER UNTIL I HAVE FOUR CORRECT ANSWERS ON THE POST.

I just opened 5 single booster packs of the same set that were obtained as single booster packs at a local grocery store.

This guessing game is easy: guess which set (generation and set name) all 5 of these single booster packs are from in the comments below. They are from either XY or Sun & Moon, not Sword and Shield. The first 4 correct guesses will each win a prize (4 random codes for the first correct guess, then down from there).

I'll update the post with a picture once they've been guessed. And if less than 4 people get it, I'll hand out the other codes to people who participated!

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 07:21 PM PDT

I kinda went nuts this week buying cards and I'm too lazy to scan all the codes I got, so I'm giving them away! Comment your favorite Pokémon and I'll give you a code. If your favorite Pokémon happens to be my favorite type of Pokémon, I'll give you two codes.

Edit: I have given out all the codes I had! Thank you all for participating!

Possible bug after todays server update for Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX's Super Growth attack

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 02:24 PM PDT

TLDR: It seems that Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX's "Super Growth" attack only works the second time you use the attack after the server update today.... anyone else seeing a similar issue? (I already submitted this to Pokemon support, but I was just curious if there is more info discovered from others than what I found).

So the first game I played after the servers went online again today seemed to have an issue. I had 3 pokemon that could have evolved with Rowlet & Alolan Exeggutor-GX "Super Growth" attack yet it came up saying that there were no valid cards, this was going second on my first turn. I rage quit so couldn't investigate further and didn't save off the game log. I tried re-creating it but the next time I played it had valid cards. Than it happened again just barely and I was smart enough to grab screen shots and export the game log.

I tried evolving my Bulbasaur to Venusaur (this was not on my first turn, but was my first time using the attack). On the turn after trying to evolve bulbasaur the attack found them just fine.

First time using attack (screenshot), Ivysaur wasn't found

    https://imgur.com/vWykY7u

    next turn Ivysaur was found

    https://imgur.com/ugeVRJS

In this same game my opponent also seemed to have the same issue as they were playing a similar deck. They tried evolving Grookey with "Super Growth" attack but had to end their turn. Then the next turn it eveloved just fine. I'll put the log below.

I just tried again in another game and I couldn't evolve my Oddish the first time using the attack, but the second time it found Gloom just fine.

This may be that it just wont work the first time you use the attack, but it will the second time.

Anyone else having these issues? Is this a bug?

Here is my log of this game (sorry my post is now enormous because of this), it also shows that my opponent didn't evolve Grookey when they could have with the "Super Growth" attack:

    1. dixonian flipped 1 coin(s), resulting in 1 heads and 0 tails, for Beginning of Game.

Baby ultra necrozma Is One of the most annoying decks of all times

    Posted: 17 Jun 2020 03:40 AM PDT

A deck that is based around locking abilities should win to decks that use abilities, but should lose ti deck that dont. In expanded that thing does far too well, i see It as almost an unbeatable deck, tbh i have not even idea of how It can lose unless rng goes terribly.being able to stop what most decks run for their Speed and remove the only Energy enemy can Place in their turn Is already strong, but doing It with a guaranteed 2-shot on a 1prize card Pokémon Is Just unbeatable

Beginner advice about collection, rotation etc.

    Posted: 17 Jun 2020 03:32 AM PDT

    Hey there,

I started playing a few days ago and I'd like to ask you reddit folks about any advice/tips/whatever you can give on:

-rotations: how to prepare for them, what are the big changes when it happens

-when a new set hits, how does it affect the value of the previous one's booster in trades? what boosters should I keep for trades and what are ones that I should just open instead (so that maybe I open something that's valuable and tradeable)

-how viable can a standard deck be that was made out of 1 or more theme decks, like a Necrozma deck? I looked at tier 1, obviously it's not there, but are these decks any good in standard? For example using 2 Necrozma theme decks as a base

-now that I've written most of my reddit post: how active is the discord community? :D

-back on rotations: obviously this depends on many factors, but how long does a good decklist last? do new sets add a lot of new must have cards to decks or is it more like "hey, new set, I'll need two new cards and my deck will be up to date"?

-how easy is it to get into expanded? what's the cheapest mode to get into after theme?

Thanks for any answers and have a nice day! :)

Some help on my confused Mewtwo & Meo GX deck

    Posted: 17 Jun 2020 01:18 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I am new to PTCGO and while I have learnt a lot I still have a long way to go. The deck I have put together is through a number of hours playing it and winning or getting beaten up badly and I am still struggling to figure out how to make this deck better so that I don't lose so much.

So if you can look at my deck and any ideas you might have on it can you please please let me know :D

I will post the deck below but these are the things I have noticed this deck is really weak in doing.

    • Shrine of Punishment
This card can really be a pain for me because of the fact my whole deck is GX and EX cards - because Mewtwo & Mew-GX use the powers of those cards only.
    • Prevent all Damage Attacks
I have had a few games now where a card has been put into play which as they attack me, their ability means they can't get any damage against them. Doesn't matter what I have on my bench I can't seem to get past that one at all, other than using the Transfer Damage Token ability.
Additionally I got hit with a Fairy Charm where I was pretty much unable to do anything against.
Another one today I got which was no Basic Attack will hurt them.... all my cards are Basic!!
    • Koga's Trap!!! ARGH
This thing is my nightmare, I have had some people play this almost every hand against me. And the moment I get confused I am doooooomed.

Some of the things I am now thinking but I want to see your opinions please also.

    • Reduce Special Energy and put more Basic Energy in it

    • More Support cards which help with removing special defenses and effects that people can put on my cards.

    • Change my Pokemon to allow for a stage2 or V because right now I have nothing that can combat even though the Mewtoe and Mew can't use it.

    Patch Notes 2.72

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 11:16 AM PDT

For those who haven't seen them yet, here are the patch notes from 2.72. They come straight from "forums.pokemontcg.com". Disclaimer I am not a moderator. I would just like for everyone to see the changes, for those who are curious.

On June 16, 2020 the Pokémon TCG Online was updated to version 2.72. Changes in this version include:

-Galarian Cursola (RCL #079): Perish Body no longer activates if Galarian Cursola is Knocked Out by damage from an opponent's attack while it is on the Bench.

-Metal Goggles (TEU #148, 195): Damage counters placed by the opponent's Dangerous Energy (AOR #82) and Horror {P} Energy (RCL #172) are no longer prevented by Metal Goggles.

-Attacks that put Pokémon from the deck onto the Bench now immediately fail if the Bench is full.

-Effects that place a card on the bottom of a player's deck should no longer cause the card sleeve on the top card of their deck to be briefly replaced with the default card back.

-The match no longer automatically advances if you have no Basic Pokémon in your hand after drawing cards from an opponent's mulligan.

-A player's Public Offers page no longer refreshes any time one of their private trade offers is accepted or rejected, or a private trade offer made to them by another player is canceled.

-Old trades containing items that are no longer available in the game should no longer prevent the Trade History tab from loading results.

-The animation for completing a Daily Challenge that rewards a random booster pack no longer shows the Trainer Token image, rather than the image of the booster pack received

New Gengikyu List (Non Item Lock!)

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 03:36 PM PDT

Made a new Gengikyu list. I understand that item lock Omastar is better, but it takes 8+extra slots(2 or even 3 each of Omastar, fossil, candy, incense). And from my friend's experience he says people easily play around the ability, by having the same amount of mons as you. Normally you'd have to pick between item lock and dmg/gust when you use greens.

Up for any suggestions or comments :)

    BUG - Professor’s Research

    Posted: 16 Jun 2020 06:42 PM PDT

I was in a Standard Ticketed tournament finals, it was my turn, turn 7. I was able to play Professor's Research twice without having used Lt. Surge's Strategy. The game let me bypass the 1 supporter per turn rule. I was unable to recreate this in a Versus game, and I don't have enough tickets to try to recreate this in another tournament. One thing to note, I drew the second Professor's Research off the 7 cards of the first Professor's Research.

The information that's available isn't exactly easy to interpret, unless i'm really missing something.

I'm in the OCE region and trying to qualify. Could someone enlighten me on how that's done and furthermore how I can track my progress? Thanks!
